Hello. I am visiting culebra island in 4 days and was wondering if anybody knows where to go fishing. Is it allowed? I have an inflatable boat with no motor. If anybody has any info as to which beach I can go fishing (that permits fishing) i would appreciate it.

Thanks! :-)

what kind of fishing are you thinking about? what kind of inflatable? one that is susceptible to hooks ..?

no seriously, fly fishing, bait, spear ... all is legal in PR - no license required.

There is a no fishing zone in Culebra (PR DNER Reserve) that includes the canal between Luis Pena and Tamarindo, Carlos Rosario, and waters north of Luis Pena. No fishing is allowed in the water or from the shoreline in the Reserve (including east shoreline of Luis Pena) and the shorelines are posted. Marker bouys showing the reserve boundaries in the water should be in place by the time you get here, they are being replaced very soon.

Also, DNER recently revised the PR Fishing Law and fishing licenses are now required. It is receiving a lot of protest from commercial fishermen and the public right now. Please check with local authorities when you get to Culebra as to the law's status and possible application to your activities, as things can change. The Fisherman's Association and also Mini Mas Hardware store and Marine Center can give you the latest info. They are located at gas dock across the canal from Mamacita's.

Thanks for asking.

Teresa

Thank you for your input!

Can you keep us abreast of the latest changes in the law?

Also what do those bouys, marking the 'no fishing zone' look like? What do they have written on them, if anything, and what color are they?

Michael
