Moving to Culebra with small children??
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello Everyone,

I actually posted this same request on the Vieques forum. We are researching both communities!!

I am so excited to find this forum!!

My husband and I are looking for the place where we want to grow some roots, become apart of a community, and raise our children. We will be relocating in approximately 2 years. At that time, our children will be 8 years, 5 years, and 3 years old. Of course, that is a major consideration for this move. Where will the children be safe, enjoy growing up, get a good education, and become socially and environmentally conscious people??

We have both done island living before we had children. We both love the tropics, the beaches, the ocean, and diverse cultures. We are considering St. Croix, St. John, Vieques, and Culebra. We have visited St. Croix and St. John, but never the Spanish Virgin Islands. My husband's family originates from Puerto Rico, but have lost the connection and the language. He would like to reestablish that heritage in our children.

Have any of you moved to Vieques or Culebra with small children? What has your experience been?

Or are any of you considering this move with small children?

Any input would be wonderful!!

I have not been to Culebra (I'm going next month for the first time). I have been living in Puerto Rico however for the last 5 years. Unless you have your kids in a private school....I cannot imagine your kids getting the education that you would be hoping for. When I say private schools, I'm talking about the top private schools. I have seen many private schools that don't even resemble the worst public schools that I have seen in the states. You might want to check into the schools further.
I have 2 kids in elemetary and middle school. If there is anything that I can help you out with, let me know. :)
Patty :)
