Upcoming Trip to Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My husband and I are planning to visit Puerto Rico for the first time in May. We have reservations for two nights at Club Seabourne and planned to spend the last two nights in a nice hotel in Old San Juan. Any suggestions?

Also, I called the fast ferry company and they are no longer offering the fast ferry trip to Culebra. I don't want to fly on a small charter plane. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get to Culebra from San Juan International Airport. We considered renting a car at the airport and driving to Fajardo to take the Cargo Ferry. This seems to not be recommended because of San Juan's traffic. Any suggestions on a good route when you don't want to fly?

Should we just drive to Fajardo and stay there one night and take the cargo ferry to Culebra the next day. Of course we would only be able to spend one night in Culebra because there is no weekend cargo ferry.

I would appreciate any insight on how best to organize this trip!

Thanks

Why the cargo ferry ? It is not reccomended to take cars there, you will have no insurance.
There are two nice hotels in Fajardo, Fajardo Inn, and La Familia. Both are close distance. The first one is closer to Ferry dock, If you drive from SJU get up very early so you won't miss the 0930 ferry, I reccomend to be there at least an hour and a half before departure.
Do not worry about the SJU traffic, very early are less congestion, and you can make it in about one hour. If still concerned, use the Caguas/Humacao route. First take the expressway to Caguas, then look for road # 30 to Humacao... follow the signs. It may almost 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hour to get to Fajardo.
Good luck, and enjoy your stay.

An easy way to get to the ferry terminal in Fajardo is by taxi. I have used Padin Taxi before and were very reliable and reasonable ($20 per person from Fajardo - SJ). Their telephone numbers are 787-644-3091 and 787-889-6202. Give them a try; good luck and we hope that you enjoy Paradise.

Our family rented a car, drove to Fajardo and went night kayaking in bio-bay, which was incredible. We stayed in a little hotel in the rainforest that night and woke up to specatular views and a great breakfast served by the staff. We hopped on the ferry and were in Culebra that day. We spent a week in Culebra, but even a day is worth it! Let me know if you need any information and I'll send you the names of places...e-mail works the best.

well when we went to PR for our honeymoon we stayed 2 nights on the mainland at "The Water Club" very nice hotel.

Then we took a small jet which was 25/30 the MOST, it was a nice flight. I mean it's a small tiny plane it was a bit scary but it turned out to be nice cuz you got to the the MOST amazing view from up there!!!! And it wasnt that expensive either.

Hope your trip went all since we are already in May!
