Fishing around Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi,

I am going to be in Puerto Rico the first week of April and am hoping to spend a couple of days on Culebra kayaking and fishing. I am mainly interested in fly fishing beaches and flats and perhaps renting a boat or kayak. Any suggestions about general areas around the island for this type of fishing? Any places to stay that are closer to the good fishing areas?
I have limited time so is it better to fly from San Juan airport rather than taking rental car and ferry?

Thanks,

Tomas

Despite what you may hear from business people there, that is an activity that will provide you with only a waste of time and money, rather than with the fun of catching a fish.
However, there may be a good and fun time using other method, that is, a line with sinker, hook, and of course ... bait.
If you know how to fish this way, there are some spots, reachable by boat, and maybe kayak.
I have at least three spots, where I have never left with less than 6 or seven catches, some times up to 18. Most of them groupers, there are also, yellow tails, stripes fish, and even pig fish.
Wherever you go, do not enter the Luis Pena area, fishing is prohibited there. And if you are unexpereinced in seamanship, take a look to my posting named : SECURITY AT SEA .
I do not have a boat, so do not think I'm trying to sell something here.
Have a nice stay, and a good, but safe fishing.
