VAL - Vieques Air Link baggage
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Just some info on baggage weights at VAL. At Isla Grande, we were allotted 30 pounds of baggage each - that included everything, all baggage including your purse, carry on, camera bag, etc... so for my wife and I they allowed us 60 lbs total, our weight came to 75 lbs, and we were charged $1/lb over, for a total of $15. Our plane was overweight, so our baggage got left behind... it was to be dropped off in Culebra on the next flight out (a couple hours after we arrived.)

On our flight out of Culebra, our baggage was not weighed at all and so we were not charged anything.

We had the same experience of our baggage being flown over on a separate plane and were running to catch our flight home on a Sunday. Just make sure you do not have a tight connection going home. Sundays, VAL's first flight leaves Culebra at 10:30 but during the week they leave at 8 or 8 :30, which will give a greater window for wiggle room. We will definitely go home on a weekday next year.

There had been a posting in March regarding going through the agriculture line on the way home. We just returned from Culebra & b/c we had carry-on we did not have to go through that line. Having our boarding passes printed the day before, allowed us to go directly through security. So we made our flight in spite of our tight connection from Culebra on Sunday 10:30 flight home. Geronimo & others were very helpful with their advise. Will write more about our fantastic 1st time trip to Culebra (April 6-15th). We have our reservations for next April we liked it so much!!!! So good-bye to St. Barts for us & open arms for Culebra!
