Casa Resaca?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Greetings! I am new to the forum and working on planning an impromtu visit to Culebra from Portland, OR.

Casa Resaca looks fabulous but doesn't have a lot of photos. The tripadvisor reviews rave about the place but then I noted that they are all "one hit wonder" posters new to tripadvisor and that makes me suspect.

It is located on Calle Resaca but I don't have the exact address because it isn't posted on their website, which I find odd. Also doesn't have a contact phone number but I just got in contact with the owner last night and she provided her phone number.

For those of you familiar with the island and perhaps have seen this place, would you please let me know if it is in a good location? It is only a couple of years old and looks nice, especially at $89 a night.

Hope to hear from you soon!

I am a part time resident of Culebra, and once I googled it and saw the pictures, I realized I know where the house is. You won't get an exact address for any house on Culebra - it's more like - turn left where so and so lives, or you know where the playground is? You go up that hill, etc. In any event, this house is way up on a hill to the north of the airport on Monte Resaca. It's close to the road, but few people live up there, and there are few guest houses out that way, so not much traffic. Many members of one of the original island families live in the area. It's very private, but I wouldn't think it has any water views. You will need a car or bike to get to town, and biking will be a b!tch because of the steep road leading to the house. Frankly, it looks like a steal to me! Go for it!

Happy Diving!
Debbie

Thanks so much Debbie! I actually spoke to the owner on the phone and I feel fairly confident that we will be renting this place. I don't mind a steep walk and I am sure I will need the exercise! Looks like a great place and I will report back after I return.

Cheers!

Been to Portland, been to Culebra -- "steep" in Portland is not the same as "steep" in Culebra. The Resaca hill is very steep and it will be hot. Looks like a great place, though. Definitely will consider it when we are fortunate enough to return to Culebra. Maybe next year -- can't wait to come back.

I suggest you check out Playa Resaca, gorgeous deserted beach. Keep going up to the end of Calle Resaca, then hike from there.

Linda, I have been to many islands in the Caribbean so I am guessing that "Resaca Steep" may be similar to "Tortola steep?" I once had to kick two guys out of our Rav 4 while going up a hill on Tortola. They had to walk up. :-). Another time going up Havers Hill on Tortola the cab driver went half way up and said that was as far as he would go.

Hopefully it is close enough to town so we can walk in, should we choose. Heck, I just did the 3 Day 60 Mile Walk for the Cure so I am not afraid to walk.

Sounds like you have an idea what you're getting into. We used bikes exclusively our first trip, and had no issues other than the hills near Zoni. Our second trip we rented a jeep for a couple of days for our longer excursions, and used bikes or walked the rest of the week. It can be done.

Enjoy Culebra -- it is truly a special place!
