camping on culebra

i've not been here yet, but am a dedicated camper who likes to drive a rental car, preferably small and inconspicuous, and/or walk to the basic area i want to visit for the day and then ask politely if my very small tent with just me can be accomodated in a tiny corner somewhere out of the way. this works great in new zealand, which i've camped all over. other then at flamingo, is this kind of nomadic camping allowed on culebra? would those who own the land welcome one mature woman, very quiet, with a small tent for a night or two for a minimal rate before she moved on? i like to spend my time on beaches and hiking in jungles and forests, staying away from tourists and city/town like places, being free to move about, being solitary and meditative in a quiet clean environment free of commercial distractions is what i have in mind.

can anyone who's been here advise me of the viability of this as a plan for at least a month and perhaps 2?

my thanks!

sakina

Instead of a car you will need a kayak in Culebra ;) All beaches are public, so you need not ask an 'owner' per se, but it is technically illegal - afaik. On the other hand if you set up tent at dusk, don't make fires and are gone shortly after dawn, no one will bother you. Make sure you hitch your tent above the high tide mark .. and if you do travel via kayak, leave a float plan with someone.
And if you hang out at Dinghy Dock ask around for the story of that gringo, that got stuck on Luis Pena because the N swell got so high, he could launch his kayak and tried to swim back ... about 15 years ago.

Enjoy Culebra!
