Visiting Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I will be visiting Culebra in August and had a few questions... My main reason for the visit is Snokeling. I will be accompanied by my mother and two cousins. First I was wondering which company would be the best to rent a golf cart of jeep from. Or if I even need a vehicle to get to the good snorkeling spots. I called Culebra Divers and they said their boat is inoperable at the moment so no guided tour. But I don't mind goin on my own little adventure with a little guidance from the locals. Second I would like to know about the ferry and if it will be crowded around the August season. Also is there a place that rents fishing equipment? Sorry if this is alot of questions I just wanna make my days in Culebra enjoyable for me and my family.

There are plenty of places to snorkel by just walking in from the beach. Melones, Carlos Rosario, Punta Soldado, etc. Boat? We don't need no stinkin' boat! Search this forum and you will find a wealth of advice, such as where to go in at Melones to avoid sea urchins. You can bike to most of the good snorkeling spots if you are in reasonably good shape, but a bike offers no protection from the rain, so a vehicle would probably be a better bet in August. We have also rented from Jerry's.

I dont know if you already did your trip. I was there Aug 9 and 10. We stood in line for the 9 am ferry at 8 and the boat was already sold out. We were able to buy tickets for the 3 pm.

They told me they could not sell me the return tickets but as I got on the ferry back it was obvious many, many people have been sold round trip.

A friend that traveled to Culebra on Aug 7 stood in line at 7:30 am and got on the 9 am.

Local Culebresians can by round trip tix. It also seems that it's up to the ticket agent whether they feel like selling you a round trip tix or even an advance ticket. It can be done but they also seem to say no whenever they feel like it. Just my observation.

My suggestion is to take a flight if possible.
