Will be coming to Culebra this April to camp at Flamenco and I hope it will not be super crowded two weeks after Easter. Does anyone know if you can reserve a particular site at the campground or even a site in a particular zone (A-B-C-etc.)???? Also was wondering if anyone has any opinions regarding the prettiest campsite with the best view in zone E or D?????? :)

Oh yeah. .. I forgot to ask...is there any type of grocery vendor at the beach to buy fruit and snacks from (and beer by the 6 or 12 pack)??? I know there are food vendors that sell prepared food. What does the campground office offer??? Do they rent snorkel equiptment????(or any one else at the beach) We are trying not to rent a vehicle if at all possible.

I camped on Flamenco in either D or E.. they are the sites with the best views.. I was there in 2003 but i don't think much has changed.. there are 2 places to buy food but they have spotty hours.. the airport has a small cafe with coffee pastries and eggs.. we bought stryofoam cooler in fajardo and luckily had a frying pan and fork at our campsite and just bought charcoal and roughed it... they sell beer at the airport as well.. the campground office is basically just for checkin and security.. I traveled with my snorkel gear but i'm sure there is a place to rent it.. have fun.. i'm planning a trip to come back to culebra as it is one of my favorite places.

my sister and I went camping there May of this year, which was just a few weeks after Easter and it was great, not very crowded at all. No you cannot reserve a particular spot unless you have a large group but you wont need to either so no worries. We camped in "E" and it was amazing... I suggest buying a hammock, big lots was selling them for like $12 and I bought two straps at walmart that are used in pick up trucks to hold stuff down and it was perfect because they were strong enough and long enough to tie between the two trees that were at my site, which gave me this perfect view of the ocean and the breeze was awesome. When you get to the "E" cmping area just look for the little hutlike campsite that someone statys in (it is pushed back so you may not notice it if you are not looking for it). the one that was past that (they are close to each other) was the one I stayed at and it was awesome and there was a path about ten feet from our site that led over a little bump of a hill which is where the trees were that i used to hang my hammock and also leads right to the beach. there is also a spot in "E" that is one more site down and it looked awesome too but there was already campers there. It is very quiet in "E" which is what I wanted. As far as snorkeling gear goes, the little taxi type bus vans all rent snorkel gear and so do some of the food shacks that are there. Before you head to Flamenco I would stop at the grocery store, if you ask someone where it is at they will tell you and you can walk to it easily from the ferry and probably the airport too. then i would just take my stuff back to the ferry area and you will be able to find a taxi to take you to the campground.
we also bought some charcoal and matches but where we were at the cross breeze coming off the ocean was too much to get a fire started.
Have fun, I had an amazing time and cannot wait to go back...maybe even sooner than I originally planned : )

The grocery closest to Flamenco is Isla del Sol Mini Market - 742-0886. Very reasonable prices. For fresh meat, you need to visit Colmado Milka, across the drawbridge and to the right. Both places stock beer and liquor.

Does anyone know if the office of the campground will hold a box of camping gear for us if we mail it to them???? Or even if the culebra post office will deliver to the campground...the address given for them kinda looks like a p.o. box but I'm not sure???? I heard that the employees of the campground have limited english and I'm SURE my spanish is even worse... I mailed them a letter asking these questions and have yet to hear back from them. :)w
