Hello, I am going to San Juan to visit my boyfriend and I want to visit Culebra but the info I have found so far says everything is so expensive. I was wondering can I drive there from San Juan ( I am renting a car) also is the food really $50-80 a personm to eat? I only plan on staying for the day b/c we are staying in San Juan would it be worth it? I live in Texas and I have never been on vacation, I am really excited but funds are limited. I want to visit el yunque also, any other suggestions?? Thank you so much

Mandy

You can't drive to Culebra you have to take the ferry from Fajardo. Just go to the Transport link on this website. And I highly doubt food is $50 a person.. Maybe at one of the fancy resturants but I am sure they have vendors somewhere who sell Puerto rican fritters like Pastelios and Accupulio if I spelled that right also Pinchos are a big thing in puerto rico for a cheap price. But you can always pack a nice picnic for the beach.. Thats always nice. For El Yunque I would suggest Castillo Tours ( http://castillotours.com/ ). Ask to go on Roberto Garcia's Tour he is a great tour guide, very knowlegeable and thourough. You should definately try to snorkel while on Culebra.

You can take your car on the ferry but its kind of a hassle and also more expensive.. and some rental car company's insurance won't cover any damage don't on culebra or on the ferry. so check with your company.

Don't know why it says it costs $50 -$80 per person to eat in Culebra. You can eat well for around $10. Check out the link under Food and Drink for the current list of restaurants. Buon Appetito.

I was in Culebra 2 years ago and loved it, no need for a car, in my opinion. I took the bus to Flamengo beach every day. And rented a bike and biked all over the island for $ 30 bucks. I had great meals and never spent more than $25. Enjoy, I am jealous and can't wait to get back.

Live each day as if it were your last,

Esteban "Mitre"Craig
