Culebra MUSTS.
Culebra, Puerto Rico
Author: Matt Gonzales (---.hsd1.in.comcast.net)

I'm going to Culebra tomorrow for the first time, with my wife, for our honeymoon. I'll be on a plane to Puerto Rico tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. EST so I ask this of those of you who may read this in the next twelve hours: What must we ABSOLUTELY do while in Culebra? From big adventures to small, from dining experiences to diving experiences, what are the things that, if we don't do, we'll regret forever? Or at least for a few weeks?

Thanks all!

Matt,

First recognize there are no absolutes on Culebra :) - one must often go with the flow.

Top things to do:

a. Visit Flamenco Beach.

b. Snorkel Melones and Carlos Rosario reefs.

c. Hike to Brava Beach with you new wife and spend a morning alone on this beautiful remote beach. Bring a big beach towel, water and sun tan lotion for those bare spots.

d. Listen to Wiki and Jorge play the congas on Saturday night at Mamacita's. Sip on a bushwacker and get ready to dance.

e. Dine under the stars at Juanita Bananas. Buy a bottle of wine and relax and enjoy the slow pace of fine dining.

f. Visit Sue Zinkowski and view her artistic impressions of Culebra. Then go to Butuki and see Evan's art and then Jorge at Art Fango.

g. Take a water taxi or kayak to Luis Pena. Bring a lunch picnic and your snorkeling gear.

h. Visit the museum on road to Zoni Beach.

i. Hike up to the helipad above Flamenco Beach or drive to Cerro Balcon and get 360 degree views of the island. Cerro Balcon is above Zoni Beach.

j. Have breakfast at Dinghy Dock and sit at a table overlooking the harbour.

k. Shoot pool at Happy Landing?

There is plenty to do and you cannot go wrong with any of these suggestions.

Most importantly, take an afternoon nap and awake to the peace and quiet of the island and the songs of the birds.

Congratulations and have fun!

John

JW, any coquies? I know about roosters and coquies en la isla grande but most tourists are not used to sleep to the coqui music. How about transportation. Rentals available during high season versus local taxi and do they pick up at the beaches (cell phone service at beaches?)

I am Culebra bound in late December, also for the first time!! Waiting to hear from Matt.

Well done John, but don't forget the Tarpon at the Dinghy Dock.
A trip to Culebrita is another possible addition.

Thanks

And how about a day bonefishing with Chris, an afternoon sail around the Island, a lunch at The Spot, a chat with MJ, a dive with Walter etc. etc. There never seems to be a lack of new discoveries.

Cannot wait to be back next month.

I'm hoping we hear from Matt about how his time here was and what they did! Great suggestions, John...I think you should put them all together and then any of us can just re-post the list when this question comes up again (and again). ;)
