Snorkeling in Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi - we are looking to snorkel in Culebra. Heard there are some nice spots for this activity. Any reccomendations on local dive shops for equipment rental, transportation/guide to dive spots?

How expensive are these packages usually? fyi - we are staying at Posada and will be in Culebra for 2 days.

Thanks in advance.

From shore, Tamarindo, Left side of Flamenco, and many others.
Go to the fishermens village... there is a dive shop just before, at the lumber store.
For good snorkeling you need a boat, and go to Los Corchos, in front of Luis Pena, the right side of the beach ( facing north ) in Culebrita, and the west side of Culebrita, among many others.

Jose is right! In addition to Mini Mas you can rent snorkeling equipment at Culebra Divers opposite the ferry terminal!

Enjoy Culebra!

We just returned from our first visit to Culebra. Although the wind limited our snorkeling the best places we found were Punta Soldedo, Carlos Rosario, and Culebrita. Flamenco Beach was too rough the day we visited, but was a beautiful Beach and body surfing was terrific ! :-))

We loved our visit and will be back, but I still can't beat the snorkeling at St. John. Salt Pond and Cinnamon bay.

Still you will love the beaches and clear water regardless.

Hey Art-
Give my best to Jerry, George and Elaine.
Seriously, I must give my two cents worth Tamarindo. It was great. It's a little bit of a hike, but well worth it. We've been to Culebra twice. Culebrita was also awesome. Good Luck. Hope Vandalay Industries is doing well!

You can find some excellent snorkeling from the shore. In particular, Melones off to the reef on the right is very good, especially if you go in the morning by 9 or so. There seem to be more fish out and around and the wind has not come up yet. Carlos Rosario is also good it you are willing to swim out and then parallel to the shore. There is some current here so watch that carefully.
There are other places and it's been great fun for us to discover them on our own.

hey all,

Me and the gf are thinking about take the East Wind Cats Culebra day trip this month during our visit to Puerto Rico. Does anyone know what we will get to see during the snorkeling? Will we see things like corals, fishes, stingrays, and big giant sharks?(jk)

The reason why I ask: I'm considering buying an underwater housing for my video camcorder to document the underwater scenery in Culebra. But if they don't take us to these places that you only see on Discovery channel or National Geographic, then I probably will save my money to buy gasoline.

Appreciate your feedback and comments or suggestions!

thanks,
Steve

Steve, having your own footage is something you cannot compare to professionally made videos. If you want your stuff to look like that, take a course with Walter from Culebra Divers! He is the pro in underwater photography!

Enjoy Culebra!
