Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello! Does anyone know if the ferry's going to be running on May 26th or May 27th from Culebra to Vieques?

Does such a ferry even exist?

OR

Will we have to go from Culebra to Fajardo via ferry and then Fajardo to Vieques?

Does anyone know how long the ferry ride is from Culebra to Fajardo?

What about from Fajardo to Vieques?

Thanks!

The ferry schedule can be found in the TRANSPORT section under FERRY. From Fajardo to Culebra, it's about 1 1/2 hours more or less depending on ocean conditions. It's the same amount of time to Vieques, too. Unfortunately, there is not a ferry connection from Culebra to Vieques nor the other way around. However, you can fly from Culebra to Vieques on Isla Nena for $70 round trip. It is a "on demand flight" meaning if there are enough people booked for that day, there will be a flight scheduled. Call ahead for info and make reservations: Isla Nena Airlines Tel. 1-877-812-5144, 787- 791-0413, 787-741-6362. Trip takes 30 minutes on an 8 passenger plane. Happy travels! J

On that note, are there any 'boats for hire' that may take you around the various islands? (Not only Culebra and Vieques but Culebrita, Luis Pena etc.)?

If so, anyone know the deal? Websites/cost etc?

There is a good website with great info on Culebra and Vieques, a video of the ferry ride, etc. The website is: http://www.elenas-vieques.com/ferry.html

About boats for hire, if you go to the pier anywhere on the island, cash in hand, any captain will take you anywhere. I'm sure there is someone at the Fajardo pier that could take you to Culebra or Vieques.

From the magazine !QUE PASA!: East Island Excursions, 877-WE-R-4-FUN for Culebra snorkeling and Vieques/Bio-Bay.

In this website under TRANSPORT check out the link BOAT RENTAL and you will find names and numbers of charter boats that can take you to Luis Pena and Culebrita from Culebra.
Happy travels! J

Thank god you don't live on Culebra, Jeanine, you have the energy and fortitude to figure it out and write it out for those who want to come here ;)

MJ, who is entering the slow mode cycle until...something else happens

Thank you MJ! I think I became more Puertorrican after I left the island. I miss PR as well as my family very much and I'm always thinking about them at every moment. The only service I feel I can do from the mainland is to inform as much as I can about what I know and tell of my experiences. Life on the island is very hard, economically, politically, education, you name it and there is not an area where there aren't any problems. In spite of all these difficulties, Puertorricans are always happy and very welcoming. Tourists keep coming back, right? Happy travels! J

There are several folks on island who run water taxis out to Culebrita &/or day & 1/2 day excursions over to Luis Pena.

We've had guests enquire as to water taxis/boats over to Vieques & have thus far found it to be prohibitively expensive (i.e. $300) b/c the boats have to pay for gas over/back & it takes them away from their other income generating activities for those hours.

We've also had guests who have flown Flamenco, Vieques Air link, or Isla Nena between Culebra & Vieques. Normally the islands want 4 people to put on the flight, however if folks are willing to pay for the 4 seats ($50 one way) they will make the run. The flight has taken aprox. 15 min.

On our website (http://www.palmettoculebra.com) we do have a "FAQ" section which has the airline phone numbers as well.
