Passenger vs cargo ferry?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I could take the 3pm passenger ferry or make a reservation on the 4:30 cargo ferry. I am wondering about the relative comfort and speed of traveling on each. Anything else I should consider?

The cargo ferry, in relation to the passenger ferries, seems slower and heavier and to ride lower in the water. It seems to chug its way through the water instead of slicing through the water like the faster passenger ferries do. While I am not generally susceptible to sea sickness on dive boats, I always take bonine prior to boarding either ferry. In my opinion, the passenger ferry is more comfortable and it gets you from point A to point B faster.

Happy Diving!

The passenger ferry takes between 1 hour & 15 min to an hour & a half, whereas the cargo ferry is a 2 hr. ride. The inside seating area of the cargo ferry is "lower" feeling & higher windows & you have to stand up to see out. There is an outside top seating area too, but with little shade. The passenger ferry has inside seats, too, but you are level with the windows so you don't feel quite as "closed in." The outside top area usually has a bit of covered seating.

happy travels!
