I'd say that page pretty much says it all about Costa Bonita.

maybe someone launched the site just the least bit early given the amount of standard Microsoft gibberish Latin filler text on some of the pages:

"Lorem ipsum dolor..."

(I ran that once by a friend who has studied Latin, he didn't give me an exact translation, but declared it largely meaningless)

Ave Frontpage!

although I would like to be "Lazy by the Pool"

it's one of the few things I'm actually really good at.

The thing I noticed about the webpage that rang true to me: there were no PEOPLE in the photos! No guests, no employees, nobody. Yup, that's how I remmeber Costa Bonita the last time I wandered in ... like a ghost town. Still wondering which developers / politicians made their money on this ill-fated venture.

I thought the same thing - empty, depressing, who would want to go there? Sad thing is, the more of us that hit the website, the more it looks like people are interested if they are keeping hit counters; especially important if they are using the hit counters to prove traffic to their advertisers (if there are any). I'd say the only thing it has going for it, from my MacAddict perspective, is that the website was made on a Mac. LOL! I never have figured out all the latin gibberish either, but it's standard with the iWeb software, and you have to manually change it, or it publishes that way.

Happy Diving!
Debbie

Empty, depressing, and fragrant, unless they've gotten that 'for a few years now' sewage problem fixed...something about lounging poolside loses its appeal when you swing your legs over your chaise lounge into..."Oh NO!, that wasn't the baby's diaper!"

Where is eminent domain when you need it? I still think it is perfect for housing the CoE munitions mitigation team for the clean up. Then, dismantle the buildings, mark, bundle and stack the renderings. Voila! Lowe's on Culebra. New rooster pens, all around!

The team is gone for now. Unfortunately, they did not take Costa Bonita with them.

How about turning the main lobby into a lecture hall and the units into dorm rooms for a marine ecology academy. We need a contest to come up with ideas. 1st prize is a free night at CB. Second prize is 2 free nights at CB.

She may have found the prevailing attitudes a bit unsettling, since she is listed as one of the 3 contacts on the website. Mitzy, nothin against you, darlin' - bummer of a career move, tho'.

whats the whole deal with this resort? I was going to stay there but i noticed some kind of battle and the website or reservations were not available...

I booked at another place where i get all that they list, on a really nice place with great views for Half the Price...

I think the place looks really nice judging by the pics but not price worth IMO.

The people who developed Costa Bonita did so without bothering to try to understand Culebra; its customs and culture, its workforce, and most importantly, its fragile ecosystem and infrastructure.

1. There is barely enough water to sustain the island PRIOR to CB coming on-line.

2. Federally protected wildlife preserve property was damaged during construction.

3. Some years ago, the community committed to building a sustainable eco-tourism economy. It only takes a couple of jackass-inspired developments like CB to sink the whole plan.

4. Lax enforcement of permits and EPA regulations are the only reason this resource pig was allowed to be built. Culebrenses have every right to be bitter about this, particularly when drought drys up the water supply.

Culebra is not Cancun, thank the gods. People desiring pseudo-luxury resort vacation experiences have plenty of destinations from which to choose.

Make sense?

Doug

Extremely well put, Doug. I've been hoping someone would do exactly what you've done. Thank you!
