Best places to snorkel
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello Friends,

My wife and I will be in Culebra for 3 days later this month. We would like to know where the best snorkeling is on the island (or surrounding islands). We are wondering if Luis Pena or Culebrita would be the best. What are our options to get there and the prices? Thanks for the help in advance!

hey, search-wise, we see the same questions pop-up all the time and I think a lot of users don't realize they have the option of searching, maybe the next time you re-tool the place, the "search" feature could be more prominent.

the only other idea would be too expensive and time-consuming (organizing individual topic specific forae under the topics on the left)

but, I sort of like how these threads go off-topic on occasion...

Richard,

thanks for the input. Yeah I had noticed that and that's why I put the search on the left as well as on the top. But I guess it was not prominent enough.

And personally, unless the forum has thousands of users, I prefer the one overview, where people get to see stuff they might not usually go into. Plus it gives me trouble where to post stuff. In restaurants? trip reviews? 'general?!?

Culebra is way too small to warrant different forum topics - IMO.

And as you mentioned, it is sometimes fun to see a thread go waaayy off topic, as in, 'what, 30 replies about sun screen?!?! I gotta read that' :)

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

I Guess I was looking for some insight from the locals that snorkel regularly around culebra. I have been through this site and many like it and have read all the snorkeling suggestions. Michael how often do you snorkel and where just curious..........

Bikerider I guess Richard and I just wanted to prove a point by going off topic - lol.

I personally think that Culebrita and Cayo Norte offer the most pristine snorkeling grounds.

Enjoy Culebra!

I don't see the point you are trying to make by going off topic.... I've never been to Culebra or Vieques and I'm very excited to visit. I have used this sight to plan my trip and it has been very helpful in doing so. There are a bunch of beaches and surrounding islands that offer snorkeling and with time being a factor I want to make the best decisions for my time there. It would be impossible to see them all. I think my excitement about the best snorkeling was taken as a typical tourist coming in blind..

please take no offense, my comments were to make it easier for new visitors, rather than having to wait for days for half-witted comments from the likes of me...

back on topic:

one you can't miss and w/o the cost of a water taxi is Playa Carlos Rosario. short (20 minutes or so) hike from Flamencos parking lot. watch for the sea urchins at the entrance and go further along before going in.

Michael:

you're right, it's much easier to stumble across useful info with the current set-up than if it were quantified (I've worked with too many databases).

Bikerider,

the point was that if people did not go off topic from time to time it would not be such a fun place to hang out. Ergo less people would be around to answer your question, even though it has been answered many times before.

We reserve the right to talk about database normalization, even though the topic originally was about snorkeling.

At no point did we make fun of you or treat you like another newbie! On the contrary I think you will find that the people here are always willing to dispense their knowledge over and over again!

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

our favorite places to snorkel are near flamenco, called sharks pen, or the opposite direction to carlos rosario and tamarindo. on the other side, we were wowed by culebrita plus visiting the lighthouse was an awesome experience. we took the boat, tanama, over with captain jack, and the trip was an experience of its own! way to many things to enjoy in culebra for a short visit! next time, plan to stay longer!
