mosquitoes?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi,

We're planning to come to Culebra towards the end of January. What's the situation regarding mosquitoes/dengue at that time both during the daytime and at night. Most of the guidebooks have warnings about the rainy season Aug. - Nov. My girlfriend is very reactive to mosquito bites.

Thanks,

Alan

I am also very reactive to mosquito bites (they swell like hives). I am also apparently very attractive to mosquitos. I'm sorry to tell you that they are present year round. They are worse at dusk and dawn. Most all restaurants have a bottle of bug spray available, but be sure you have some for yourselves as well.

Happy Diving!
Debbie

One thing that can really help is - do not wear scented toiletries of any kind. Use unscented everything. Skeeters love those sweet smells.

"I am also apparently very attractive to mosquitos."

Who knew skeeters had such good taste?

It is true even in San Juan. Please carry repellent and there is a product in Avon that is a lotion just for afterbath but it is proven to have something that repells them. Don't wear black or dark clothes and wear in the night long pants. If you are in a hotel no problem because with a fan or ac they are no problem but in a tent try to sleep with a fan of batteries.

Puerto Rico beautiful island, home of the hospitality and the shinning sun
