I have stayed at CBV on 3 separate occasions through the years. The first time we stayed at one of the small studio villas and our experience was very similar to yours, Marc. The 2nd and 3rd time I have stayed at the multilevel building and it has been even better than staying at the other villa. Note that each villa is owned by a separate person which can affect your experience there.
We have stayed on the top floor villa which is a decent room with AMAZING views to flamenco beach. I highly recommend this one. It has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath which pretty decent living area. However, my favorite of the villas was the one downstairs because it was painted really nice and furnished very comfortably and all the amenities were nicer than the one upstairs. Also it was one step away from the entrance to the beach and right by the little outdoor restaurant which ended up hanging our suvenir hawaiian coconuts from a delicious Luau at Tamarindo restaurant.
Over all I second the CBV recommendation!
