Ferry Reservations
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi,

I am currently on the phone waiting for Ferry Reservations. I need them for July 21 to get to Culebra from Fajardo. I have been on the phone for 20 minutes. I think that perhaps I am having trouble because of the upcoming July 4th holiday. However, I have read on this board that there are quite a few holidays at the end of July and the ferry fills up fast. We are going on a Friday. Is that weekend a holiday? Will it be less crowded on Friday?

Also, I heard that in July the Ferry is frequently late. Would it be better for me to try to fly from Fajardo for $50? I would rather save, but I so want to see Culebra and Flamenco Beach.

If you are taxiing from SJU to Fajardo then taking the ferry, I'd suggest flying. This will avoid uncertainty and allow you to spent the time you would've spent rushing, waiting and fretting washing down grill prawns with strong sangria at Coconuts Beach Grill on Flamenco Beach instead.

Besides, the flight is quite scenic and the landing approach one that you'll never forget.

I'd have to be saving WAY more than $100 to make me swap my precious vacation time at Flamenco Beach for a long taxi ride and a long wait in line for a late ferry. How much is your vacation time worth per hour?

We flew Isla Nena and it was fine but there are plenty of other good options as well.

you can not make a reservation for the passenger ferry, nor can you buy tickets in advance. you only have to reservations for your car on the cargo ferry. the passenger fery takes about 1 1/2 hours i' go ahead and fly.

Yes, you can make ferry reservations for passengers. This was started over a year ago and I recommend it for everyone traveling in July, especially on the 9:00 AM ferry.

The ferry office takes calls in the morning and maybe in the afternoon. The Culebra ferry office has a list of times that are best to call - and I don't know about the Fajardo office, but they are not likely to answer the phones when they are busy getting a ferry sent off, more likely just after it goes.

Ok, so I still am not sure what to do. We do have a car, and we need to end up in Fajardo that night. So, we will inevitablly drive to Fajardo, and then either fly or ferry. If we fly, it has to be out of Fajardo, because we need to get back there by 9pm for our Bio-Bay tour.

I still haven't heard about what holiday it is then. Also, do you think it will be crowded on a Friday?
