clothes to bring
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We are planning to be in Culebra from June 24 - July 3rd, and then in San Juan until the 5th. Is there any reason we should bring more than just shorts and tee shirts to be in San Juan? Should we bring something more "formal" for the nights there?

We always bring one nice or two nice outfits for dinners at night so in case we wanted to take nice pictures we wouldn't always be in our shorts and tees all of the time. Now we took my mom and her husband both in their 50's and pretty upbeat and energic (workout freaks) ok so my mom packed make up and nice clothes for all week in san juan...the first thing she said to me was I will never bring make up and dressy clothes again because you are drenched as soon as you walk outside (because of the heat) I on the other hand enjoy the heat and hardly wear make up so I never found it to be an issue but be prepared if you are not from a normally hot climate year round you will be glowing a bit during your stay.

I would say as far as classifying the clothes situation business casual should be fine for at night.

Are you going to Old San Juan?

Yes, we'll be in Old San Juan, staying at the Hotel Milano from July 3 - 5th (wanted to avoid crowds on Culebra. ) Any suggestions while we're there?
And we're from Virginia, so are no strangers to heat and humidity. Do you think my husband could wear shorts in any restaurant/bar/nightclub in San Juan?

Lois,
Hi Your husband could wear shorts (like khakis docker kind) to any restaurant/bar in old san juan. I am not sure about Nightclubs as my husband and I are more low key. I think most of the night clubs are in San Juan itself not osj. In any case there will be plenty to do in Old San Juan on the day of the 4th. At Plaza Colon there is an awesome parade that lasts for a couple of hours and they have a live band play on stage and a bunch of fun things to do. We loved it so much last year and we just had a ball with it.

We will be there at Plaza Colon for the 4th! I would say while in Old San Juan have a bite to eat at Ostra Cosa and Barrachina these are my two favorite places. Alberto at Ostra COsa is the best host of his restaurant, it was a slow night when my husband and I went in and he sat with us and prepared many beautiful meals for us to taste. We got hooked really fast!

In Old San Juan there are planty fo shops to visit and the forts to go to and just being around the locals is another great sight. Whether it is watching the kids go run through the fountain near el morro or watching the dominoe players deep in concentration, you are going to LOVE IT!!!

Write back if you have more questions!

Gina
