Info Needed
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi:

We'll be visiting Puerto Rico next week from Apr12-16 and staying in San Juan. I needed some advice wrt to exploring Puerto Rico.

We would love to visit the beaches on Vieques and Culebra (snorkeling etc.) and see the BioBay (Fajardo or Vieques)

For snorkeling and beaches is one better off going on the excursion day trips on a Catamaran (EastWind Exur etc.) or just head out to the islands and explore ourselves ?

Any suggestions about El yunque - take a trip or do it ourselves.

Thanks in advance

PK

That is the worse time to plan going to Culebra, it is the week of Good Friday, if you like crazy crowds, worse behavior, noise, and more go there.
I would stay in SJU, and visits other beaches, whcich will be crowded but you'll have more space to move.

i would recommend staying in FAJARDO. try staying at THE FAJARDO INN, this is a good startig point for trips to EL YUNQUE, LUQUILLO BEACH, AND SEVEN SEAS BEACH. take the EL YUNQUE tour yourself i suggest taking THE MT. BRITTON TRAILand the trail to LA MINA FALLS. i also highly recommend taking the sailing/snorkeling trip with EAST ISLAND EXCURSIONS

good luck,

Escambron is really nice in San Juan very family oriented and you really get a sense of the culture there!!! I always go to Puerto Rico in July around the 4th, a couple of y ears ago I went during Luis Munoz's birthday. I try to schedule during a holiday so I can experience it through another culture. The traffic in Old San Juan was probably the most bizarre situtation I have ever seen. Luckily for us we were staying at El COnvento. The cars were literally parked in the street because they were not able to move for hours and the locals said it's the same thing every year.
I know here in the us we would get major road rage I never once saw an angry local in the car in all of the traffic Jam it was more of who could play the music the loudest through their car. We are going to San Juan again this July again for the 4th but I am going to plan on going to CUlebra the day after to experience that wonderful place. Please write back after your trip and let us know how it was.

Gina
