In anticipation of my upcoming trip to Culebra, I downloaded the NOAA color aerial photos of the island from 1999 to get a birds eye view of the landscape. The high resolution pictures were great, although they were a bit washed out and contained flaws such as scratches and even hairs. One of them showing most of the island was taken later in the day, and the lower sun angle really highlighted the hills. I liked it so much that I spent some time enhancing the colors and cleaning up the flaws. It's now the wallpaper on both my work and home computers. I've put it online so anyone who wants it can view and/or save it. Warning - the high resolution version is 3.3 mb and will take forever to download using a dial-up connection. It can be found at:
A smaller version (174 kb) is at:
My enhancement may be a bit dark on some monitors, so if someone needs a lighter version, drop me an email and I'll make a brighter one available. My apologies to Luis Pena and Carlos Rosario fans, as they are off the edge of the photo. I'll be staying at La Pela Bay, so I was more interested in seeing the that area. Perhaps I'll eventually take the time to stitch two images together to create one image showing the entire island and surrounding cayos.
