i'd love to have sand...but...if price is really different, then i guess coral is also acceptable...we just want to have a calm sea to snorkel...

for the shelter listed here, it doesn't say which is on the beach. it would be really nice if it has this information

if you go to maps, your only options are linked from there! flamenco has sand, tamarindo doesn't. but carlos rosario is next to tamarindo and is sandy.

Enjoy Culebra!

Thanks Michael! Is there a hurricane or rainy season on Culebra that I should avoid?

We stayed at Tamarindo Estates four times and the snorkling is great
Little hiden beaches up around the bend and a sandy beach back out the road a half mile . Over the hill gets you to a mile of white sand at Flemenco Beach... watch the crouds on Flemenco if you go during the Presiidens week vacation period. thewre can be up to 100 people on the beach at high noon.
Hope you don't like crowds,,, cuz you won'y find them here.
Out favorite time on the island was mid Jan toMid Feb befor the holiday. A lot of boaters come in from the main island that weekend.
Check out Hose's web site and give it serious thought.

There are other places on the island but this is special.
enjoy

For the benefit of other visitors like me, I would like to make a correction to the post stating that there are no sandy beaches at Tamarindo. There is one small sandy beach many people do not know about.

For years I have been an avid sailor and come to Culebra as much as I can. Also love to visit town, where I have befriended some locals. While cruising near the Tamarindo shoreline I usually opt to anchor and sometimes stay overnight at Bahia Tamarindo (this is the official name in the NOAA Culebra chart). By the central area of this bay, better known as Playa Tamarindo by the locals, there is a pretty, sandy beach with usually calm pristine waters. Next to this is the old torn-down building used to weigh cattle in the old days. The beach is a third of a mile from Tamarindo Estates.

I found a posting of a chart showing the beach’s location at:

Playa Tamarindo is the sandy beach which many Culebra natives look for when the northerly Winter swells make it risky to swim at Flamenco beach.
