Another post said the new owner
was David Gonzalez? He purchased
it after the original guy (Magee?) went belly-up
and too many people were complaining.
Now this post. Was the sale just a scam to
take off the pressure? Why would the
founder post now when noone mentioned
or asked for this info and he wasn't involved?
My friend who owns a boat and lives in
Culebra said the new owner has improved
service (if there really is a new owner!)

You guys done lost your mind. The wireless did not go belley up and there weren't too many complaints. The wireless business was a hobby for me. It is not my main business. I staff nurses in hospitals all over the US. I passed on a healthy and profitable business to the new owner David Gonzalez. I'm still involved as a consultant until he transitions to Culebra next month to start his retirement. He owns a house in culebra and is retiring from his job in San Juan this month. He needed something to do and I needed to be freed up to travel and work my other business. Instead of drumming up conspiracy theories just ask me directly.

David,

We sailed to and around Culebra early Dec. I had my computer with me since I use it for navagation and had wireless access everywhere we anchored (moored). Since I was not a paying customer I couldn't use it however. Might be a good idea to offer some type of short tearm deal for visitors, kind of like the cell phone people do in the BVI's. Sign up with your credit card for so many days. I am not a tecky so I don't even know if that is possible but we would have taken advantage of such an opportunity. Pass it along to the new owner.

John

It is set up to pay for 15 minutes, 1 hour or 1 week for short term visitors. I'm glad you were able to get a signal. The new owner asked me just the other day if there was a place to hit the boaters. I had or have a deal cut for the tallest house on the bay next to the public dock to put a transmitter to hit the boats. I'm not sure if it is necessary, but is available if he wants to invest the money. The new owners e-mail is gonzo@culebra.net if you want to reach him.

According to two different sources Mr. Magee
had lots of complaints and was losing business.
They are however pleased with the new owner.
Last year we tried to get on the internet at the
El Eden cafe and finally gave up. If you sold your
business with such a bad reputation why would
you stir things up again. Maybe Mr. Magee should
quietly help and stay out of the limelight.

I can't stay out of the limelight until Mr. Gonzalez is fully trained. They system hasn't changed at all on our end and the new owner hasn't done anything to it. The change took place with our provider. He moved to the Sprint Building in San Juan where the main fiber line comes into Puerto Rico and he upgraded his servers. That happened two weeks before I closed and it hasn't gone down since. Business has never dropped and is still growing with Vieques practically untouched.

I can say as a resident of Culebra full time 24/7 it did not go belly up. The service was growing and expanding. People on boats passing through the night have trouble understanding what actually happens here. Bottom line want to know information about Culebra ask a local.

As we can see by Jason's IP address, it is up and running! I have used it in the past and can only attest that the service was great! There were outages, but they were due to the provider from the main island and as David mentioned before, that has been fixed!

Enjoy Culebra!

Hi John Smith,
I am David Gonzalez the proud owner of Culebra Wireless.
I was going to comment on "sources, rumors scams" but that's not my style.
I would rather spend my time and energy promoting our beautiful island, its residents, and its natural resources.
My best wishes to you in 2006
