And again...that's depend on the date of weekend. Anyway Flamenco is a reeeeeeeelly big-long beach, so don't worry about it. If you are planning to go to Culebra on this weekend from May 16 to May 19, probably you will the only one ( almost ) at the beach.

Enjoy Culebra Island, the people and the beaches.

I will be traveling to Puerto Rico for the the following two weeks after the fourth of July(July 4 thru July 19). Would like to know what is a good quiet day to tour the island and perhaps stay a night there.

Carlos:

You seem to know a lot about Culebra. I was just there on Saturday and Sunday. Fantastic Island, with one exception. We had reservations for Saturday and Sunday night at the Culebra Beach Villas at Flamenco Beach. This place was absolutely horrible, and we weren't the only people that thought so. In fact, there was a group from San Juan that we met and went to dinner with on Saturday night that had the same feelings. They too left early on Sunday because of the conditions.

I truely believe that the Culebra Beach Villas is not presenting a good reputation of Culebra, and even Puerto Rico, to outsiders. It's a shame that this place can ruin someone's time in beautiful Culebra.

I left early Sunday without actually speaking to the management there, although I did speak to them about the situation on Saturday. I am going to dispute the charges on my credit card and I wish to contact some Puerto Rican tourism authorities about this place. Can you suggest who I may contact? I may even start with the mayor of Culebra. Believe me, Culebra Beach Villas has not heard the last of me. I will be relentless in my pursuit. Any help from locals will be greatly appreciated. The scam they have going hurts both outsiders and native Puerto Ricans who choose to stay there. This place is a real negative to Culebra.

We were in Culebra from the 17 - 19 of May. After arriving on the island by ferry, we immediatley took a van to Flamenco beach. We had no problem registering at the campground. (Keep in mind I was with a Native of the Main island who has been there before) After setting up camp we hit the beach. There were a bunch of people there on Sat but they all left at 6 --- day trippers I guess. Sunday was pretty much cloudy all day but we still did everything we wanted to do. Lots of lounging and snorkeling! Sunday night it poured and poured and poured! After talking to a ranger (?- not quite sure what he was but he was walking up and down the beach with a huge flashlight) we hung around in the dark waiting for the sea turtles to come and lay their eggs but it started raining on us instead!
The next day was quite funny because everybody (including us) had clothes and things hagning from the trees to dry. Everything that we had was soaked! Flamenco beach was completely deserted that day! It was beautiful.
Culebra was a wonderful experience for me. I speak very little Spanish and was lucky to be there with a native but everybody seemed to be able to speak enough English to get by!

Norm,
I checked out the Villas while there and decided that camping was a better idea aand probably a lot cheaper.

I plan to come back to Culebra probably in August. I would really like to rent a boat for a couple of days. I was also thinking about renting a jeep this time. I have only been from the ferry terminal to Flamenco beach. Is the island a lot bigger and is it worth renting a jeep? Is there many places to take the jeep?

Where is the best place to rent SCUBA equipment?

We are heading to Culebra Beach Villas in August and have not yet mailed our deposit. Can you please tell me exactly what was wrong with the place? We wanted to rent the 4th floor 3-bedroom unit.

Thanks for any advice you can give us. Sounds like you had a horrible experience and it scared me.

Connie
