On-Demand Air Service?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I have plans to fly to Culebra on June 6 and return on the 9th. I called Isla Nena today and they told me that they need a group of 5 or 6 before they will fly out. The other air services are also on-demand. My question is, since I am flying in on a monday in June and flying out on a Thursday, what are my chances of getting a flight?

BTW, is there anyone else on the forum travelling those dates?

Almost all airlines in the Fajardo airport fly on demand, that is, they wait until there are enough passengers.
They do not operate on schedules, but do not worry too much, passengers show up quickly.
If you depend on these flights to get to other destination on time, better use the ferry. There is an early ferry out of Culebra at 0630.
I have not used these flights from San Juan, but I assume that there, the passengers do not show as quickly as in Fajardo.

Nice stay,

Thanks for the advice.
I called Air Flamenco today and they have an 11:00 flight from Culebra to San Juan (Isla Grande). I was really wanting to fly out later in the day like around 2:00pm. I went ahead and reserved the seat on the plane while I wait to hear from Isla Nena. I have a couple of months to get this done so hopefully I will be able to get an on-demand flight with Isla Nena later in the day.

Joel,
I'm sure you know that Isla Grande and Luis Munoz airports are a few miles apart if that makes any difference. Isla Nena has ALWAYS come through for me. They even fly newspapers over to Vieques and Culebra very early in the morning. This flight leaves from Fajardo. These flights are cheaper but it costs a bit to get to Fajardo, taxi-wise. You should be able to get the last flight out of Culebra with no problem. Be patient. If you get close to the date and haven't found anything on Isla Nena give me an e-mail. I know the owners but I don't want to post their number on the forum. Enjoy Culebra.

If you really need to get somewhere or you have more than 4 people or lots of luggage, I suggest that you call Air America. They are a small charter company out of Louis Munoz. We used them in March and they were very professional and reliable. They are listed on this web site

And, if you're lucky, Mel Gibson will be your pilot ;>)

Very funny.

I don't care what the pilot looks like just as lng as I get there in one piece and on-time!

On Time?
Culebra??
Forget about it.

LOL

Although I will say that while I was there I didn't expect time to be a concern and things went fine.
