I have read that there is some good surfing on Culebra. Particularly on the beaches brava and resaca. I would appreciate any information about the quality of surf there and if there is anyplace on the island that rents longboards. Thanks!

How do you get to Brava and Resaca? Are there roads that go so far to these beaches and then hike the rest of the way there?

Thanks!

The left side of Flamenco beach had LARGE swells 1/2 mile out on the outside reef the entire time I was there last week. 6-9 foot at least.

There is no, or very little surfing in Culebra.
hope you get those rare waves that may come once or twice a year.
Do not put your money on the table, unless you see the waves.

Good luck,

I was on Culebr over New Years and Flemenco was going off a little on the beach breaks, but closing out on bigger sets. We took a trip to Brava one day but it was blown out...we ended up body boarding and body surfing, which was sooooo worth the walk through the mangrove. We had the beach to ourselves all day long! For the $80 each way, to sling a board from the states, I don't know if it's worth it as I heard the waves don't push up too often, but coming from Chicago, it was worth it just sitting out in the the crystal clear carribean. Good luck, hope you get some surf!

Great reply! There is surfing in Culebra. You just have to know where to get it. Brava, Resaca and my hidden secret spot have good break. I can also suggest a place off of San Juan that is incredible. This place needs a boat ride out but there are 10-15 foot swells. Good surfing.

the surf on brava is excellent- there were a few surfers there when my boyfriend and i hiked down a few weeks ago, but they were locals and i didn't notice any place to rent surfboards on the island....
enjoy!
