Isla Nena
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I'm trying to make a reservation with Isla Nena only to find that the toll free numbers that I have are numbers that are no longer in service and disconnected. Has anyone out there flown with them in the very recent past? I'm not getting a good feeling about them! I used their services last year and had no problems, whatsoever! This year different story!!!

The numbers I have are: 1-877-812-5144
1-866-208-1130
1-866-417-0521

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I do not remember if I posted under GOOD INFO, their phone number, however, there are some phones there.
So... look to my post under such title.

We flew with them Wednesday the 16th and Tuesday the 22nd, everything is fine. Great flight, nice plane, on time. They have a web site http://www.islanena.8m.com/ it has all the info you should need. Have a fun trip, it's a beautiful flight.

I've used their services last year without any problems. I did check their website before placing this post. The phone numbers that are posted on their website are disconnected. Maybe for some reason they have their numbers disconnected temporarily because it may be so crazy busy with Holy Week in progress right now??? I guess I'm just getting a little antzy because our trip to Culebra is in May and I want to get all my loose ends tied up before too long!

Thanks for your reply back!

Hi y'all!

Glad you had a good experience getting off the island on Tuesday. Ours was horrible. Too many kids from the beach taking the ferry. They stopped the line for the big ferry just ahead of us, and we had to wait for the next one, which was the slow one. Commandeered a cab in Fajardo, scary ride, but the driver got us to SJU in an hour and 10 minutes. Got to the gate just as our plane was boarding. No fun, and I'm not sure I'd do it again. Air off the island is the way to go.

Take care, and hope to see you again,

Debbie and Lewis

Happy Diving!

1-877-812-5144

This is the phone number we booked our flight on about 2 weeks ago. Some days they answer some days they don't, but this is the only one I ever got through too.

Their service once we got there was a different story. Once we got to San Juan, there was no one at the ticket counter. Our flight was to leave at 5:00 and no one showed up at the ticket counter until 4:50. The guys kinda seemed like they were just taking there time, talking to thier buddies and our flight didn't finally leave until almost 6:00. I was somewhat disappointed because I had hoped to see the island in broad daylight to orient myself.

Once we actually got on the plane, this is when the "excitement" really began. We had never flown on a small plane before, so the fact it shook around more than your usual jet had us a little nervous. Keep in mind, no one from the company has really even talked to us to this point. When we walked up to the counter, he just held his hand out for our paper work and when they walked us out to the plane, they just pointed us where to go. Then, about ten minutes into our flight while we were still flying over the mainland, we start hearing a beeping noise. We had no idea what it was, but tried to stay cool. About a minute later, the pilot cuts the engine back about 50% and the plane starts going down. At this point my girlfriend was freaking out and I was pretty scared myself. The plane continues to descend pretty rapidly for at least a full minute while all we can see is an open field. I figure, "wow, were going to crash land, we might die" Not really what I was expecting to do on my caribbean vacation. At the last minute out of no where we see a little tiny runway and proceed to land and pick up another couple, just to take back off and land in Culebra 15 minutes later.

Now I have no problem stopping somewhere, but they should have let us know. We were scared to death and thier professionalism was non-existent. Everywhere else we went on Culebra, people were very friendly and helpful (except for one waitress at the Dinghy Dock) and we had a great time other than that. The views were great, but if we went again, I think we would just take the new ferry from San Juan. It probably would have been just as fast for as long as we waited around for Isla Nena, and I doubt we would have nearly had heart attacks. Have fun on your trip, but I don't think I'd fly with Isla Nena again. Thanks.

Hey Aaron,

Wow! You got two landings for the price of one? That's better than buying one ticket for the Screaming Eagle at 6 Flags and having them send you through twice. Next time, just ask the pilot. He's sitting right there in front of you.

Now that you've been initiated into Puerto Rican general aviation, do what I do...have a couple rums before take off, and entertain yourself figuring out who the puddle-jumping virgins are. They are fun to observe!

Aaron,

I'm glad you survived your flight :>)

My first experince with a puddle jumper many years ago was similar...I was sure I was going to die but it was the calm demeanor of the other passengers and pilot that prevented me from making a fool of myself.

Having now been on many small planes, I actually enjoy the ride and the views.

You're right, Isla Nena doesn't do much "hand holding" but we found them to provide good service and I found the pilots to be top notch. We took off from Vieques in a very strong cross wind that I was sure was going to blow us off the runway before we became airbourne. Of course the pilot knew better than I and I was impressed with his skill.

I figure that the pilot isn't going to take chances since his but is on the line as well.

I think that, now that you've done this once, you'd have no trouble with it the next time and might even enjoy it some.

I don't think you'd find the ferry experience any better...at least the flight is quick.
