san juan to fajardo

Hi All,
Great forum. Can't wait to travel southward this Spring, it's snowing for the 12th time here!
I'm a young female travelling from mainland US to the Caribbean May-July. I'm flying into SJU and would like to visit Culebra, then end up on St. John-USVI. I've heard about the ferry, Caribe Cay, from Fajardo to the USVI. Has anyone taken it? Also, how are the publicos? Are they a reasonable/practical way to get from San Juan to Farjardo? I don't speak much Spanish.
Any advice/info much appreciated!
Cheers
Joanne

Hi Joane, Taxis is the most common way of transportation for those who do not want to rent a car.
If you are to take the ferry CARIBE KAY, They go from Fajardo to St. Thomas, and back. I do not know if they are allowed to leave you there, or if they sell one way ticket.
Once in St. Thomas, you may choose any transport they have to St. John.
St. John is beautifil.
Culebra is another paradise, where time goes on, on a relaxed, slow moving, way. Oh! I have noticed that CaribeKay, does not keeps a regular schedule, this is, sometimes they go, others they do not.
About the ferry to Culebra, be sure you are in the ticket line with enough time ( 1 1/2 hour ) or you may lose your seat. This is even more important on Saturdays, and Sundays.
Enjoy your stay...

As I see it, PUBLICOS are not taxis, there are VANS.
And I do not think they will go directly, they have to stop a feew times to take and leave passengers, in that way they are not relaiable.
For all other they are.

Hi- My husband, brother and I are all going to Culebra for a friends wedding in May. We want to stay in Fajardo one night. Do you have any suggestions on an affordable place to stay. Only 2 hotels come up in my search. Fajardo Inn and Wyndham El Conquistador (I'd love to stay there of course but I must be reasonable!). This site is wonderful, thank you for taking the time to help all of us travelers!!!

El Conquistador is quite expensive, Fajardo Inn is good, there is also another small hotel, y believe its name is LA Familia, is right before the old entrance to El Conquistador.
If anybody here knows the name for sure, please post it for the benefit of Tami Cotton.
This hotel is listed on most local HOTEL/RESTAURANTS Guide magazine.

Nice stay...
