Puerto Rico Taxi Service
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I will be staying at the Normandie Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My friends and I (17,17, and 18 years old) want to plan an adventurous trip to Culebra. We now how to get there, but we are concerned with money. We would like to know what are the cheapest taxi's we can call from San Juan to Fajardo (The Ferry Port)? We know of one but that cost's 70$. So im unfamiliar with the costs so can anyone please help me get some cheap taxi service numbers. Thank You all very much. And this site is awesome and full of great information.

You might want to ask the hotel in San Juan where you're staying for information on cheap taxis, or if there's a shuttle van.

Publico is going to be the cheapest way - no doubt about it! Check the transport section for a how-to!

And thanks for the kudos :)

Enjoy Culebra!

The problem with PUBLICOS, is that they have to make various stops, and you will not get to your destination on time.
A ride that takes a taxi one hour, in a PUBLICO can take double.
YOu will not be able to get a taxi for less than 65.00.

Jose,

I think Daniel is looking for an adventure and wants to spend as little money as possible. Time might not be such an issue, plus it is well spent, getting to know how regular folk on the island commute or visit their aunt - no te parece?

Enjoy Culebra!

I too am traveling down to San Juanon the 30th of this month for the first time and have a couple of questions about going the Publico route over to Fajardo, and then taking the ferry over to Culebra.
My flight arrives at 5pm in San Juan and I am wondering which would be the best way to go about this.
1) Stay in San Juan Wednesday night, get up early (5am) leave by 6am, take the Publico to Fajardo, expect to arrive maybe by around 8am, stand in line for tickets for the ferry to Calebra, and then arrive in Calebra sometime mid day?

2) Go ahead and go to Fajardo Wednesday night, and get up at 5am, be in line to get ferry tickets by 6am.

I am thinking that plan 1 may be best especially since check in at the hotel is usually after noon anyway.

My other option is to rent a car and drive it one way to Fajardo.
Any thoughts?

Plan 1 sounds good, but it may be not.
If by Publicos you mean the VANS ( PISICORRE ), not the TAXIS, there is a good probability that either you get there for the second ferry at 1300, or that even you may not get to see one so early, with enough passengers to make the ride.
THe ferry ticket office opens at 0800, most of the time, especially on Saturdays, there are enough people to fill up the ferry, by 0730.
So use this info for your plans, I had a boat that I use to transport people to Culebra & Vieques. Despite all the promo I did, none pay more than getting in the ferry area by 0815/0830, and wait until the ALL TICKETS HAVE BEEN SOLD notice. There I made more money than any call directly connected to any ad I paid for.
SO... do not let anyone, with out the experience, tell you otherwise.
And, if you add that the ferries are all in very bad shape, do not be surprised if there is no trip at all for the day, and have a plan C which uses airplane, or to stay at another location.

Unless you crave some San Juan nightlife, I think you'll experience less wear and tear by staying overnight in Fajardo. If you rent a one-way car, it might provide some options for you, such as sightseeing or possibly having a cocktail in Pinones or at the El Conquistador, depending on your taste.

Since her flight arrives at 5 pm, I think any opportunity to see El Yunque would be lost to darkness, don't you Michael?
