Bahia Marina Resort
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Just returned from Culebra and had a fabulous time at Bahia Marina! We had heard that lodging on Culebra could be without some ammenities such as hot water or air conditioning. But this resort has it all. They have recently reopened and each unit is brand new, has a great view, new kitchen/living room with a futon sofa. There are two full baths and a separate bedroom. We had another couple join us for a few days and they were very comfortable on the futon...and had their own bath. Every room has a balcony and we overlooked the pool.

This resort also has a dining room and serves great lunches and dinner. The price was a bargain as well. We paid $163/ night and that included taxes.

We wanted to share this with anyone travelling to Culebra since we had heard about so many bad lodging experiences. You can be sure of this place! You'll need a jeep to get there (about 10 min from the airport) but you'll probably want one to get around the island anyway.

Reservations can be made by e-mail: mayoral@libertypr.net or mayoral@piahold.com

If anyone has any questions, we will do our best to respond.

This resort is very good. Most of Culebra lodgings are very good too, at half the price.
And most of all... Culebra and Vieques, have had hot water, electricity, A/C, for many many years.
I really do not know where you got the impression our islands lack those comodities. We re not a jungle, not even a third world country.
Of course we do not have casinos, traffic lights, room service, but TWO of the most beatiful beaches in the world are here. One officialy mentioned in a french ( CONDE NASTEE ) travel/tourism publication FLAMENCO, the second one by me, CULEBRITA, which is only accesible by boat, and even more beautiful than FLAMENCO.

Is the e-mail "mayoral" in this post, the same
Mayoral from Vieques. Is Bahia Marina having
problems or is it Costa Bonita? I own property
in Vieques but visit Culebra when possible. We
love both islands and hope they stay friendly and
"local/native"

Gail,
Come out of the closet, are you a travel
agent? Be proud. Are you a Costa Bonita
condo owner/spoiler. Be ashamed. We
got the same crap in Vieques and we don't
like it either. If you're really in love with
resorts like that try the Conquistador its
even more expensive and they really know
how to kiss your a--.

John -

Why would you think that Gail is a Costa Bonita condo owner if she wrote about Bahia Marina? Am I missing something? My husband and I spent nearly a week at Bahia Marina and really, really enjoyed it. And yes, air conditioning, a nice kitchen to cook out of instead of eating out all the time, and a swimming pool right there for those rare times when you don't feel like going to the beach, are nice amenities worth the price.

We would love to stay there our next trip back to Culebra.

Thank you, JM!

No, I am not a travel agent, John! But I did a lot of internet surfing on lodging in Culebra before we visited there last winter...our first trip to Culebra by the way. We stayed in two different places, Bahia Maria which we thoroughly enjoyed...and another place in town which was highly rated by many. We didn't like it there at all...probably because we experienced Bahia Marina first. Since we placed so much value on the IslaCulebra.com website, we felt that we should return and share with others our experience in Culebra....which we did. Hopefully many folks have or will benefit from this information and have an equally wonderful time. We plan to return to Culebra and Bahia Marina every year if we possibly can!

Don't know much about Costa Bonita except for a short visit. It was too much like a large resort for our taste. We prefer a smaller/quieter environment. Not sure how John connected me to this place!?

Would be pleased to answer any questions from would be travellers to Culebra on staying at the Bahia Marina.

Gail

Gail, yes I got the two confused. Usually people
report on the Island (Vieques or Culebra) where
they stay is secondary usually. People don't
come to Vieques (where I own) or to Culebra
to stay in a resort. Funny you didn't mention
the Island itself or the people. Your inclusion
of the booking link seals it! Vieques and Culebra
both have had "Paradors" for years. Most
Guest Houses have kitchen facilities. Hope
you try Vieques next, it's bigger and has the
level of accomodation you need.
