Open invitation to kayak around Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My wife and I will be on the island Mar.3 through the 17th. We have been kayaking around Culebra for many years. Last year my son and I went around the island short of 7 hours. Anyway, it is always fun for us to meet new people, especially those that like to kayak. We bring a faded tan Folbot with us, so look for us. We are staying at the Posada # 10- leave a note or find us around back on the patio. Sitting right on top of the water is the best way to see the island.

Is your folbot on the island or do you bring it over? If so, do you fly it in? Will a plane take one? I have an Aleut and wasn't going to bother with bringing it over, but maybe.... Will I be at any serious disadvantage renting, what I assume will be, one of those hard shell, ride on top versions?

Will be on the Island 3/3 -3/11 at Villa Boheme. Perhaps our paths will cross.

Happy paddling.

My girlfriend and I would be up for it, but we don't arrive til the 17th of March. Since you have Kayaked there before, what are some good places to go? And also we're going to be staying at Villa Boheme and I see they have kayaks there. Does anyone know if they let people that stay there use the kayaks for free or do they rent them and if so, how much are they. Thanks!

We have a Greenland II that we fly down with us. We have never had problems flying the national carriers. The small planes into Culebra would charge an extra ticket because of excess weight and bulk. Therefore we always bring it over on the ferry. Jim Peterson from Ocean Safari Kayaks rents kayaks on the island- he and his lovely wife Barbara run Barbara rosas restaurant. He has some pretty sea worthy sit-on-tops. We have stayed at Villa Boheme but under different managers. I don't know much about their boats or rental fees.
Jim would be the first person to talk to-he got me seriously hooked. Culebra is a great paddlers island.

Dear Sweet,

Thanks for the info. Already have a plane ticket so think I'll go with a rental from Jim. Have a great time and maybe see you on the water.
