Father-Son Adventure
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello all Culebra fans. My 16 year old son and I are planning a SCUBA adventure to Culebra this June 9-19th. We have never been to Culebra and are on a VERY limited budget but have determined to make this a real bonding time and need all the help we can get. We plan to use Culebra Divers and stay at the Palmetto. Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Any tips on finding a great airfare from Des Moines, Iowa? Will we miss the turtle hatch? What is the best deal for a car for 2-3 days? What should we plan to with our 10 days. Thanks for all your help!

Hank,

Don't forget to bring your snorkle, too. There is a great deal to see that is less than 10 feet under the surface. To find out what activities are going on with regard to turtle nesting, check with http//:coralations.org. I understand that in some years the DNER is responsible for supervising the project. CORALations will know. I'm not certified, so I can't tell you much about dives, except that I'd ask the CORALations folks about whether the coral is spawning; supposed to be the Granddaddy of all night dives. If you guys are birders, there is a book called "Birds of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands" which is a great resource.

Enjoy.

Doug

I do not remember Palmetto, but you mau want to explore SHELTER on this forum. If you are signed to Culebra Divers, I'm sure they will get you to nice places.

Have fun...

Where/what is the Palmetto? In my 9 trips there, I've never heard of it. You can't go wrong with Culebra Divers. They are the best! Snorkeling at Punta Soldado (Soldier's Point) is awesome, as is the diving there. Have fun!

Happy Diving!
