Can I mail items to the Post Office and pick them up when I arrive?

We will be arriving to Culebra next month for our 6th time. We are bring friends and I wanted to mail some heavy item that could put our luggage over. Is it possible that the Post Office will hold packages? Is safe that they would not be stolen? Thank you for any possible help. We are so looking forward to our return. It's so very cold here in Chicago!
