Ask your insurance company what they offer. Mine offers a rider on my policy that covers me while I rent a car, and I can have the rider put on and taken off as I need it. DO NOT buy insurance from the rental car companies, it is not worth it. The rider doesn't cost much -- when I kept it on my policy for 6 months because I was renting vehicles frequently, it cost $30 for the 6 months. I double-checked when we went to Culebra and they said I was still covered in PR.
