ferry
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I'm traveling with 3 children and we would love to take the ferry over. Is it realistic to think we could get on the 3pm ferry or would we possibly get stuck on the main land? Our vacation is only 8 days and I want to spend my time on Culebra. I heard of someone who spent 3 days trying to get a ferry over to Culebra. The kids love the ferry ride but I want to make sure we don't end up with 3 (or even one) less day in Culebra. I dream of it all year round!

The point has been made before, if your time on Culebra is limited, don't take the ferry: fly.

Good afternoon,
As noted, it's been discussed in other threads.

If you value your time, fly.

Best,

Are the ferries running and taking all passengers fairly on schedule or not?We really enjoy the ferry ride over to culebra and no one wants to get stuck in fajardo missing out on vacation time. What's the real story?

Good morning,

Out of a fleet of approximately 12 boats there are usually 3-4 running at any given time. In order for the "schedule" to function as close to on schedule (notice I did not say on "time") as possible each island needs a min. of 2 boats (one passenger & one cargo).

At the present time Culebra only has one boat working. This can change on a daily basis.

Sometimes folks who take the ferry one time out of the whole year get lucky & it runs perfectly & pretty much when it should according to the schedule, however a a year-round resident & someone who is keenly in tune with the ferry schedules daily- as we have guests who come & go to/from the island every day- & all year round the chances of being delayed or significantly delayed increase dramatically with the ferry over flying.

Can you get here on the ferry? Yes. Will it be full? Sometimes (depends on the time of year, if boats are combined, etc.). Will it be on time? Maybe.

For my valuable vacation time, I'd rather fly & have less wasted time & frustration & more time to relax & enjoy my holidays.

Best,
Terrie

Thanks for a clearer picture of the ferry situation. We'll consider the chances we'll be lucky or not. warm regards from chilly Vermont, Dave
