Gym
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Making my third trip to visit your fine Island in a week, and couldn't be more excited.

Just a couple things that I couldn't find in my Forvm search:

-In March, it looked like the construction on the gym by El Batey was almost finished. Is it open now? Can tourists use it or is it just for residents?

-I've never been there in early November before. Are the bugs considerably worse than in January? Are there any other differences between the seasons that I should prepare for as a beach camper?

Thanks very Much!

Hi there.....only suggestion I have for you is to be SURE your tent is not staked next to a mango tree.......I don't think there are any mango trees at Playa Flamenco....if any were planted.....be sure to reserve a site away from.

Thanks for the tips.

Just got back from another predictably wonderful trip to Culebra. Thanks to all for the hospitality and kindness.

To answer my own question for anyone else that may be interested...

There was no problem wandering in as an obvious tourist and using the facilities. It was just as I had expected, perfectly adequate, but in no way luxurious. If you found the same machines in an expensive hotel, you'd be disappointed, but if you worry about that kind of thing, Culebra may not be for you.

Another advantage, at least for Flamenco campers is the showers. It gives you a place to wash up for the evening without heading all the way back to the beach.

Had blast. Can't wait to visit again

Glad you had a great time and your take on the gym is exactly the way we hope visitors will see all of their experiences on Culebra! Shh about the showers though, unless you're using the gym!

Is the gym still open? If so, what does it cost for a day visit? Thanks

The gym is still open and it's free. Not open on weekends or holidays.
