Renting Scooters in Culebra

Could anyone guide me on how I can rent a scooter in Culebra.. No one seems to pick up the phone number for Culebra Scooters. Also are there people who rent scooters in fajardo which can be taken on the ferry to culebra?

Renting a jeep is too expensive for us, so any advice on renting a scooter will be great.

I love the people of Culebra..

Cheers,
Srini

I don't know anything about the scooters, but if cost is the objective, consider renting one of Dick's Things. We rented for $40 per day and at least you have four wheels under you, a tarp over your head and a bumper in front of you.

I agree rent the Thing. Scooters are suicide waiting to happen or a big whipeout and I don't mean surf.

Not sure if I will categorize scooters as suicide waiting to happen. Scooters cannot go more than 25 miles especially in culebra roads, but it provides ease for the budget traveler wishing to go all the beaches in culebra. Also I have driven motorcycles all my life, so scooter is safer than getting on the air flamenco plane. The golf cart at $40 is a good idea but you cannot go to many good beaches and snorkeling points in culebra due to the high terrain.

Good afternoon,
Carlos took over Culebra Scooters, however I'm not sure he's renting them at the moment.

The Thing & the golf cart can go anywhere that a scooter can. I would guess that the comment re: scooter safety perhaps has to do more with Culebra's road conditions than someone's personal driving experience. There is often alot of debris/rubble & we've actually had several guests who've had accidents on scooters.

The cargo ferry is primarily for commercial vehicles & residents. Too, it is generally in violation of rental agreements to try to transport rentals on the ferry.

Best,
Terrie

When we were there nothing went over 25 MPH. When I asked Dick what the speed limit was he replied, "Second gear".

I agree with Terri that the biggest problem with a scooter/bike/hiking on the roads is the debree that may be in the road and the hidden/blind curves and hill crests. And some of the drivers ride very fast leaving Zoni and navigate in the middle of the road. Not to mention the occasional scampering chickens and iguanna or llama sunning in the road.

If you get a bike you had better be in excellent shape if you plan on venturing outside of Dewey.

Enjoy your trip!

I have had renters wipeout on scooters like Terrie's guests. Probably loose gravel on the paved roads are the greatest danger. However, speeding and hogging the road by cars and trucks are a greater danger. Remember, a shower occurs almost every day and down pours can blow up in short order. A roof and doors make a huge difference.
