I hope to go to Culebra the first time for my birthday in Nov. Is it a safe place for an female to go alone? What are some inexpensive places to stay, besides camping? I'm a beach person and will be wanting to go for long walks on the beach. Interested in going to Culebrita for about 2 hours. How often does the ferry go there and how much is the fare? Is there any place on Culebra that sales lottery tickets? Do they play mega millions or powerball there?
Thank you in advance

Re Culebrita: you go for the day. private boat takes you over say 9:00am and then picks you up around 3:00pm. Lots to explore over there. Approx $50 pp for the taxi boat ride over. they may not take just one person for $50. Not worth it in gas.

As a single woman, you will feel very safe in Culebra. I suggest staying in town, catch the publico to Flamenco beach for your long walks. Then you can walk to most restaurants at night. Have fun!

What time does the publico bus start for the day and what do they charge? I wish to be on the beach before 8am. Are there any reasonable price places to stay along any of the beaches in Culebra? Is there any places on Culebra that sales lottery tickets? How long does the boat ride to Culebrita take and is there always a chance of finding some others to go there to cut down on the cost of the taxi boat? Thank you

I'm not sure what time the publicos start, but I imagine it's pretty early. It is $3 each way to Flamenco Beach. If you stay at the beach (there are only two places and camping) then you will need to rent a car to get around, especially since the publicos stop taking folks from Flamenco back to town around 5 or so. The boat ride to Culebrita is about 30 minutes and if you ask around you may find people willing to go, but the minimum price would be approximately $50. Do some searching on this website for lodging.
