Ride on Cargo Ferry
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We are a group of 4 going on September to Culebra.

As we will have our car also transported, we were wondering if all of us can ride the cargo ferry at 4AM?.

In other words, do they ever allow people in the cargo ferry?

Tried calling them for info and they just do not answer.

Yes passengers can ride on the carga ferry. The driver is covered by the car ticket but the other three will need passenger tickets.

I'm traveling also on september and taking my car with me. How much is it for taking the car on the cargo ship? and is it true that the cargo ship doesnt make trips on saturdays and sundays?

While waiting for the 6:30 ferry going from Culebra to Fajardo, a cargo ferry arrived. I watched them unload it. So yes, it does run on weekends.

i think it is only running on weekends now while the passenger ferries are out of comission and they are using the cargo ferry as replacement for the passenger ferry.
but i read that the culebra 2 is also out of comission so i wouldnt count on being able to get a car across. also, will your car be a rental? its almost a certainty that you are not allowed to bring your rental over.

Good morning,
Normally, at any given time there are often ferries being repaired/swapped out. This happens very regularly.

The Culebra II was running yesterday. It may have been down the day before for one run, for example, but is now back up.

Usually there are no cargo ferries on the weekends. They sometimes run one every other Sat. & when things do get full or boats break you may see them at other times on Sat. or Sun., but I would not plan on a vehicle transport for a weekend.

As mentioned, is is generally in violation of rental car agreements to bring a rental on the ferry.

Additionally, as the cargo boats are primarily for transporting all commercial goods & then residents to/from Culebra, it is best to park on the Fajardo side & take the passenger boat.

Best,
Terrie

We are a private boat chartering service that will take people to different islands in the Caribbean from Fajardo, PR to anywhere in the Caribbean (Culebra, Vieques, St Thomas, St Croix ect) We have a fleet of two 34’ Chris Craft Scorpions both with over 400hp to speed from island to island. Each boat is equipped with all the necessary safety equipment and a sound system that would set the party mood right. Our captains are certified by the coast guard and are fully documented. We work off our customers schedule 24/7. we can book day trips to one beach close by or two visit 3 beaches in a weekend. We can also arrange hotel accommodations for trips overnight.

We can provide transportation from your hotel anywhere to our boat on demand. Rates can be given on request depending on the type of service needed and the amount of time you would need us for.

I think it's pretty irresponsible for you to bring your private vehicle to Culbera - the island is already full of private cars of those who live there - why add another source of pollution to the island unless you really, really need to?

Hi Liam:

I sincerely have noted your comment on trying to protect nature and Culebra. I go every year and rent a jeep but this year I am bringing my kayaks and wanted to be able to do so with my own car. Bottom line...If I don't bring my vehicle I will anyways be renting a jeep.

Believe me, I respect Culebra!! I understand and respect your point you being an avid Bicyclist.

I am just kindly asking you to please respect me!
