Thoughts of moving to Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I visited Culebra for the first time this past mid March for two weeks,, and absolutely fell in love the minute i stepped off the ferry i had this feeling of mental, physical and emotional peace of mind. I felt like i had belong there. I am currently living in New Jersey and have grown up here my whole life. Living really close to NYC and the fast paced cut throat lifestyle that comes with it has gotten very old to me and makes me ultimately very unhappy. I have been feeling like someting is missing in my life.
I am a beach person, love the ocean and everything thats lives in it. The ocean is amazing to me and little to no people understand the magnificance of the ocean. I am a pretty good fisherwoman, and love to fish every chance i get. Being in Culebra i got to snorkel and i did it everyday, it was beyond what workds can describe. I mean i was swimming with the fishes..many of my friends dont understand my connection to the ocean and the life that exist in it, but i feel at peace when im surrounded by it. So i lost my job and im thinking maybe this is my chance to start new somewhere else, somewhere that i love and feel is the right place. But i dont even know where to begin about moving forward with that decision. I dont remember really seeing any apratments on the island of Culebra. Does anyone have any advice on where to stay , if there are any apartments, the ease or difficultness of finding a job. Anyone with any advice would be appreciated.

PS: trying to get down there late june for my bday for another visist.

Do a search of this site. I have seen similar posts in the past here and good feedback to consider concerning the matter.

Sounds like yu have the bug baaaad...I am a 7 year resident and have not regretted moving here one bit..if you do not have a job, place to live etc lined up use your next visit to get those little details ironed out..Then like the Nike ad "Just do it"...Good Luck!!

Tammy, the thing about giving advice to people who want to move to Culebra (or any small island for that matter) is that it's just plain difficult to give that kind of advice in the islands! It's not like you can say, hey, here is a cheap place to live, try here for a job - because we don't always have those sort of things. But somehow, everyone who ends up moving here and staying (and plenty move here and don't stay - it's a different gig, being on holiday and living here) find some work and a place to stay if they want it enough. And everyone has different experiences, so there is no fail safe way to help you out. I don't think it's that no one wants to help you, it's just that we know if you want it enough and that is what is supposed to happen, you'll be here. Taz's advice is good, even if it might sound vague to you. One thing, it's now entering down season. The rotation of places closing and people going away (people who live here and own businesses) has begun. There is less work for the people who are staying open. My best advice is come down again, get to know some people, talk about your desire and see what happens.

Good luck!

Fish Girl. I agree w/ Taz go for it.Everyone w/ a property needs a person to sit their house while the owners are away. An honest person is hard to find and a person to do maintence will be rewarded. Dr. BrewbakerrR

Thank you so much everyone for your response. Taz i definitly have the bug bad....I just absolutely fell in love with everything that makes Culebra what it is...and felt at complete peace with my self the entire time I was there for the first time ever. I do understand that it may be difficult finding both a place to live as well as work, especially now since the season is dying down. But i cant part from the idea of maybe living in paradise just yet. I do think I should def vacation their again and speak to others that have made the move and hear their stories. Again thank you for taking the time to respond to me, its very much appreciated.
