Christmas winds/snorkeling
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We'll be arriving in Culebra on Dec 21. I'm wondering if the Christmas winds are blowing, and if so, how do they affect the snorkeling there?

Thanks
Barbara

Hi Barbara, I just got back and I would not say that the xmas winds were the problem when we were snorkeling. It was the large swells out of the North. They were really hammering in making swimming impossible unless you are accustomed to surfing the North shore in Oahu. The West beach in Flamenco was swimable because the reaf killed the waves there but they had the entire area stirred up. Zoni has better snokeling on the East and West ends but the swells were coming in large there around Cayo Norte. I would suggest a Southern beach like Soldado but I didn't get out that way and I believe that the heavy rains a few weeks back may have reacked havoc on that unpaved road. If you do go to Rosario to snorkel, take the left beach at the end of the path. the one to the right faces the North.

Enjoy!

PS: bugspray

Thanks for the tips. We'll be sure to check out the southern beaches for snorkeling. And yes, the bug spray is already packed!
