Hi,
We are new weds and are planning a trip to Culebra at the end of January.
From there we would like to hop to St. Thomas.
Is it possible to take that trip without spending a fortune and without swimming?
Thank you for your help.
Eric

Finally! Somebody that anticipated the not-so-helpful response given only to generate a cheap laugh!

Here's how it could have gone:

"Is it possible to take that trip without spending a fortune?

Eric

"You could swim."
Frank

Well done Eric, though I might recommend next time you work the word "llama" into the response. ;-)

Now ... onto the answer ...

It's not easy. The only way I know is to hire a private charter flight. Ace Flight School on St. Thomas does it, but it's not cheap. Like $200 one way. I don't have their number handy but will try to find it and post it.

Maybe there is somebody with a boat that would bring you over.

But there is no ferry and no scheduled air service between Culebra and St. Thomas.

Good luck!!!

Hi Frank,
And thank you for your response.
I am aware of the Ace Flight School on St. Thomas and I checked air fares from San Juan, which are just as expensive.
I guess finding a boat would be the only cheap way.
I cannot believe how close the two islands are and how difficult or expensive it is to travel between them.
Do people locally spend that type of money?
Do you how much private boat traffic if any does occur in January between Culebra and St. Thomas?
Can a motor boat be rented on Culebra?
Alternatively, is there any commercial boat traffic we could hop on between Fajardo and St. Thomas?
Anyone out there wanting to start a seasonal business; I guess there's no demand.
Hey maybe with the recession things have changed....
Still hoping to find a reasonable solution.
Cheers,
Eric

Hola! What a shame that Ace is expensive. St. Thomas is only 12 miles from Culebra. On the thread:
http://www.islaculebra.com/forvm/read.php?f=1&i=15354&t=15354
these guests paid $175 for three passengers in late 2008 (?), maybe Jan 2009.
I would call the other airlines in Culebra. Someone might know a pilot or other airlines that make these trips and can refer you to them. Happy travels! J

When we were in Culebra in March someone had posted signs around town asking if anyone was interested in sharing a charter flight to St. Thomas. Other than this forum or asking the various airlines, I don't know how you'd go about letting people know that you might be interested in sharing if someone else wants to go. But if you could find a couple of other people interested in going to St, Thomas you might be able to bring the cost of a charter down to a more reasonable level.

Marnieric,

when exactly are you planning to make the trip? I can alter the topic and maybe you can find someone to share the cost of a charter!

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael
