Posada La Hamaco--good stay
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I traveled to Culebra August 11-13 with my 3 kids ages 7, 5 & 5.
We stayed at Posada http://www.posada.com/. Go to website to make reservations--good price; I paid $79/nt 2 doubles (off season-August)
We arrived on the 3pm Ferry from Fajardo, walked 1/4 mile, maybe to Posada (up the hill, first street to the right (I think) almost to the canal bridge. When you pass Mamacita's you are there. We stayed in Rm 5 (I had requested Rm 11 online but when I got there Adam said it was downstairs next to the street with an outside entrance and suggested I change to an inside room on the 2nd floor--very nice of him). This is a no-frills hotel. Clean room, clean sheets, clean private bathroom, air-conditioning ROCKS! It got too cold and I had to adjust in the middle of the night.
They offer a cooler for the beach and 1 bag of ice per day (standard size, 10 lbs, maybe). Ask at the counter about these. I brought my own cooler but used the ice.

Beach towels were in the room for us to take to the beach. We checked out on Wednesday, left our dirty beach towels and borrowed 3 towels to take to the beach that day that we returned when we went back to shower (side of building, secluded) change clothes and pick up our luggage that had been stored in a locked cabinet that day.

We ate dinner the first night at Mamacita's next door. It was good. We ate breakfast both days at the Dinghy Dock. Off-season breakfast prices can't be beat--$3 for ham, egg & cheese sandwich w/ drink. Ate dinner at Suzy's the final night. I liked Suzy's (I had fabulous lamb).

The grocery store (also sells beer & liquor) is a 3 minute walk from Posada.

All these places were easily within walking distance for me & 3 kids.

I also was very satisfied with my taxi driver Island John 917-642-7740. He is from New York so he speaks my kind of English. If you are staying the night on Culebra and using a taxi, be aware that the ferry from Fajardo lands about 10-10:15am and there will be no taxi drivers you can call to pick you up (they are all busy at the ferry taking folks to Flamenco). Taxi to Flamenco at 9:45 and claim your spot on the beach early.

Adam at Posada is wonderful. He gave my his cell phone number to call him if I got somewhere and couldn't locate a taxi, he would make the arrangements for me. I don't have his cell phone number handy but if you want it, please ask and I will provide later.

Posada also has 2 big bbq grills on the nice patio where you can fix breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a small refridgerator in the room. It works only as well as you expect a mini-fridge to work. Also a small microwave. I used the microwave for popcorn and it tripped the surge protector. So we didn't use it again.

Remember this is an island, there are sand and bugs. I kept all our food in the fridge & had no problems. Also, they did not provide shampoo & conditioner, only soap.

Things start moving on Culebra early, the street gets noisy with big trucks about 7:30am so don't plan to sleep late (I think this would be the same with all hotels located in Downtown Dewey).

Sorry for long post, but hope it helps somebody. We would stay again.
