I have stayed at Casa Ensenada twice. Absolutely love it. Wouldn't stay anwhere else!! The owners are great. They are within walking distance to town. They have pictures on this website of their place. They are on the bay and have a beautiful back deck area. They let you use the kayake for free to tool around the island. You can cook outside on the grill to save money. They provide you with a cooler to take to the beach and beach towels. You can step outside and flag down a van to take you Flamenco. It costs $2.00. It is in a great location.

I am a Vermonter from a small town and Culebra feels like home but on a beautiful Island. The town of Dewey is small and the people very friendly and helpful.

I hope to return next year for my third stay at Casa Ensenada!!

I have been to Culebra several times and I have been to Casa Ensenada. I would prefer Flamenco Beach Villas over Casa Ensenada! No Beach Their dock in the back is very small. Swimming in the bay (Ensenada Honda), you could not pay me enough. I have relatives who live there, the locals do not swim there, a lot of the houses that are on the Bay dump raw sewage into the bay, therefore the locals do not swim there. If you want to go to a beach you have catch a Taxi. I have always taken my cousins advice and stay at the best place on the island, Flamenco Beach Villas. At flamenco Beach Villas you are right on the best beach Puerto Rico has to offer, and do not have to worry about taking a heavy cooler with you, if you need something just walk back to to your villa. The villas are nice, they are clean and most all of them have a full kitchen. Not only are you on the best beach, Flamenco but a short walk over the hill you will have Carlos Rossario beach all to your lone some. There are no houses near by, at night the beach is dead maybee one or two people who are staying at Flamenco Beach Villa will be strolling the beach. Please take my advise and I can assure you you will not be dissapointed. Ocean view is nice but perched up on a hill NO BEACH!!!!

My experience we Casa Ensenda was a so so visit. It is in a very convenient location, but that is the only great thing about it. The rooms are less than what I would expect for $115. The room was clean, but it full of mosquitos. We spent about two hours killing them off so we could sleep. The owners were somewhat friendly, but not as friendly as other places on the island. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it about an 6 based mostly on its convenience and clean room. We did also rent a boat from them, and that was well worth the price.

Natalie, we are sorry that you were not fully satisfied with Casa Ensenada. The vast majority of our guests are. Considering the location, features and amenities of the various lodgings available in Culebra, our prices are very competitive (www.casaensenada.com). Our rooms are fully screened and are virtually mospuito-free upon guest's arrival. On the rare occasions when mosquitos are bad outside, it is the guest's responsibility to keep doors closed.

We do appreciate and thank you for the favorable comments about our location, cleanliness, and the boat rental (www.culebraboatrental.com).

I will definetly not recommend staying at Casa Ensenada. The images from their web site is a bit deceiving. They run a boat rental business right in back yard of the guest house. There are about 6 old boats docked right on the water. The water in the bay is very dirty and mainly used for mooring boats. You will never ever swim there. The front door of the guest house is also right (literrally 3 feet away) next the main drag through town. This is far from a relaxing scene. Staying on Flamenco Beach is much better and relaxing.

With the above said regarding the bay area, I would like to comment I extensively research accomodations before making my final choice. A family vacation is not done on a whim, nor is it cheap. I asked many questions on this forum, talked to agents with rentals, even chatted with some local business ppl before choosing. I mostly considered the ocean breezes, as to be comfortable and not hassle with the bugs. (by the way theywere nothing compared to what we live with in Minnesota) A high priortiy is a good nights sleep, screens without holes were important! I was told not to worry if it were located on the beach or not, as I can be at any beach within minutes, and that is absolutely correct. It's very difficult to tell from a picture just what you are getting. We drove around the island and checked out a couple of the places I had considered. One looked like it was perched atop a hill, and actually in a hole with no view of water! Has the place been mostly closed and musty smelling? Some are only rented very seldom. For some reason the bay area just didn't appeal to me. I was VERY thankful my instincts were right.
We were extremely pleased with our new villas at Vista Bella. Location, location, location. Best of luck in choosing your Culebra accomodation.
Still hooked on IslaCulebra Forum.

Stefan,

No, neither the images nor the text and content of our website (www.casaensenada.com) are deceiving. The website presents an accurate and realistic portrayal of Casa Ensenada.

Yes, we do have a boat rental business at the Casa Ensenada pier. We advertise and promote that. The website states “Motorboat and sailboat rentals are available from Culebra Boat Rental at the pier in front of Casa Ensenada.” Even though most of the boats are, in fact, quite new, the age of a boat has nothing to do with its condition. As you can see in the reviews at the Culebra Boat Rental website (www.culebraboatrental.com), the boats are kept in very good condition.

Occasionally, especially after a heavy rain (of which we have had many during the past year) the bay water is temporarily dirty, as are all near-shore waters. Yes, there are boats moored in the bay. This is clearly shown on the images in our website. Though some folks do swim in the bay, we do not promote nor recommend it. Most of our guests very much appreciate and enjoy the opportunity to sit and relax on the pier and on the waterside patio. See the reviews on our website and other comments in this forum

Yes, we are on the main street into town. As stated in the website, “Casa Ensenada is located on Culebra’s main road” and “On the bus route to Flamenco Beach”. Guests who have read our website descriptions are aware of this. They feel that the proximity to the town and to the bus to the beach are positive amenities.

As for comparison to lodgings on Flamenco Beach, you, of course, have a right to your opinion. Others may want to see comments about some of those lodgings elsewhere in this forum.
