Hi Everybody! My husband & I are getting ready to come to Culebra this weekend for a week!! YEAH! Can't WAIT!!!!
Just trying to get an idea of four last topics that we are still not clear on.

1.) Groceries - I love to cook and will be bringing some spices & basics with me, but wondering where the best place to get fresh whole fish, herbs, fruits & veggies would be or this not realistic on Culebra?? For instance, can I get lemons or limes & cilantro?

2.) Kayaking - Where can you rent them from, the cost & where are the best places to kayak? Also - probably a dumb question, but are any of the surrounding islands close enough to kayak to for people who are fairly strong kayakers?

3.) Money - Is there a working cash machine? Does anyone accept travelers checks or credit cards? Obviusly, if we didn't have to travel with cash - that's preferred.

4.) Island Tours - What's the best way and time to go for a tour of Luis Pena or Culebrita & what is the cost?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! We're looking forward to experiencing the true Culebra and would welcome any tips from the locals!

We just got back yesterday. It was great! We bought food at Milka, which opens at 7am, right across the bridge from Mamacitas. There also is another store but opens later, around 10am. That store is on the same road as the draw bridge near "downtown". They have a bigger selection. The cash machine is near the ferry dock. You can find a water taxi at Mamacitas. I think it costs around $45pp.

We kayak there every year. Jim Peterson will rent you the boats-singles or tandum. 787-379-1973. Louis Pena is a great island to kayak around-good snorkeling and beaches. Jim can give you advice. Willy has a site here for water taxi to Culebrita.
