Step #1 is to pick up a copy of "Don't Stop the Carnival" by Herman Wouk. You will be amazed.

Secondly, I'd say you have skills that could translate into at least a subsistence living in the islands. I might print up several flyers with related skills. You could put food/beverage/hospitality on one and send or hand to those type of businesses. One with fishing, guiding, and deckhand skills to businesses that might refer customers. If you have sailing experience and a passport, you might look into crewing on charter yachts, most of which ply their trade in the British Virgin Isles. Not sure if there are legal restrictions on aliens working that way or not. You can get lots of good info on www.traveltalkonline.com in the BVI forum.
