The Ideal Way to get to Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

From another thread I was inspired to think about alternative transportation methods to Culebra.

Let your imagination run wild! How would you, in an ideal world, get to Culebra?

Enjoy Culebra!

PS: on the back of a llama does NOT count!

Absolutely NOT on the back of a llama. They are revered here and are not used for beasts of burden. Now...on the back of a flying dinghy might be good (someone told me about this the other night and I did NOT believe them...however, it's true!).

In Jimmy Buffet's seaplane? Or a live aboard sailboat? This is starting to resemble my Powerball fantasy!

Well the flying dinghy would definitely be too noisy for me. Done the liveaboard. Hmmm. I could see a sub. Maybe not a traditional one, but one of the futuristic super high speed trains in a tube. Let's say 40 minutes from NY to Culebra - of course only for me, otherwise Culebra would not exist in this form anymore.

Which is the problem with going to Culebra in the first place.

The second you go there you change it! What to do?

Enjoy Culebra!

Good question and one I struggle with...every place like this is...hey, I'm here, now shut the door! But in a slight paraphrase of what one person asked a friend of mine, if Culebra were to be designated a nature perserve and the only people allowed to live here were Culebrense, would you fight to live here? And she said, no, I'd go. And I know I agree with her, even though I'd hate it for myself (in the meantime, go to the meeting tomorrow morning at 10 regarding the Terruno project and the rest of you call the San Juan Daily Sun and ask if they are reporting on it).

So while we're inventing magical ways to get to Culebra, I'll be working on that Cloak of Invisibility!

Ah yes, that interesting question....I know there are a few ways of thinking about this and since the bottom of my flip flops are clean on it, I'm not stepping in any farther. All I can say (and what I always say) is I feel like an adopted Culebrense and am very glad of it.

Let's call the whole thing off, but then, oh, if we call the whole thing off, we must part ..

Enjoy Culebra!

I like the flying dinghy, but then most air options aren't much more than cropduster or VW bus with wings anyway.

won't get into the sociological argument of observer altering subject, too semiotic.

Has anyone been scuba diving at both St John and Culebra? Can you give a comparison?

Culebra is not known as one of the premier dive spots in the Caribbean. It's average at best. St. John would be considered above average, IMO, but well short of, say, Bonaire or Dominica.

But even an average spot in the Caribbean is pretty wonderful in my book.
