New Development - Posada del Coronel
Culebra, Puerto Rico
Author: Michael (---.nyc.res.rr.com)

41 lots at 2000 m2 each!

There is no direct contact other than the creator of the website, Michael Villegas from IDP, on the whole website.

Maybe some of us here can use the contact form and find out!

The phone number listed is 787-568-1378.

What does this mean for CUlebra?

How are they going to deal with sewage?

30 room hotel PLUS 41 lots to build on does not seem compatibel with "stimulate eco-tourism in the area and is committed to conserving Culebra's natural resources"

Enjoy Culebra!

Michael

I used the contact form to write this. Not that it will make any difference, but this scrape and rape is going on directly behind the area I live.

"I suppose you are the people tearing up the land behind Genesis. You forgot to mention how many times you have been blocked from building for violations to the land. People who don't live here might be sucked in by all of the *eco-friendly* bits but you are a blight to Culebra, if you haven't noticed that yet. But $$ signs do tend to blur the vision.
I can't stop you, but I can say what I think, and I shall. Nice run off after our last big rain by the way...strip clearing, so very eco friendly."

Everyone wants a piece of a very fragile pie...it is so sad, and leaves me feeling sick to my stomach every morning when I wake up and see what is going on.

If anyone wants more factual info on this project, get in touch with Mary Ann from Coralations.

I have no idea what that means, but maybe they have some filter to tell buyers from non-buyers???

So Willie Vasquez is behind it? He's the other real estate agent (besides Jim and Sandra) - has all the property out at Melones and some at Fulladoza.

and based on his website, it's all about "return on investment."

I don't want to attach one person to what is being done. To me, it is a mentality that needs to be addressed, because development IS going to happen, and in this case, it has been continually dealt with to do it as responsibly as possible, over and over again. It just makes me really sad to see what is going on...the bare hills of Culebra being scraped out and off for a type of living environment that has little or nothing to do with Culebra - which is TOTALLY my opinion. I know this sort of thing is happening everywhere there is beautiful water and undeveloped land (look what happened in Belize and what is going on in Panama). The very undeveloped sort of place that makes building these *communities* possible, the uniqueness that makes them *one of the last pristine etc. etc* and so attractive, is what will forever change the nature of the few remaining quiet spots in the world that happen to be beuaitiful.
Single housing is one thing. Huge (for the size of the place) developments out of cookie cutter molds that could be from South Florida or California or Hawaii...is another.
Again, this is entirely my opinion, based on my lack of desire for this sort of development. It isn't about a person, it isn't about Willie, the *you* used in my rant was inclusive of the corporations of the world ready to trade tranquility for cash. Hope that's clear!

The reply you got means, they are not even getting their own email, that they pay advertising for - LOL!

Enjoy Culebra!

I just took exception to the IRR language on his website. That's too close to "hey come buy some investment property, flip it, make a buck and move on." That's not what Culebra is about to me, and has the potential to ruin the sense of community we all feel there.

Happy Diving!

The only way 'flipping' is not going to happen if people don't sell or the zoning is being restricted - I think some of the zoning decision are made outside of Culebra, so it is not even a question of local elections, but rather a PR wide issue ..

Enjoy Culebra!

Well...I don't think the heart of Culebra will be ruined. It will be a drain on resources (hey, maybe they'll build their own de-sal plant and generate from
wind power, being all eco-friendly), but what about the markets, gasoline, etc. which are size constrained?
But at the heart of Culebra are people who will continue on with their lives and the culture that is here...but I think magnifying the feeling of one elderly Culebrense woman who told me "We feel like we are in jail now, we used to be so free."
Freedom's just another word for, in this case, everything to lose.

Oh to live in a gated community, secure behind guards 24/7,staring out from air-conditioned luxury from their gilded cage, secure in their knowledge that their "Eco-friendly investment property/vacation house" didn't destroy 100% of their surroundings;maybe only 85%,they can feel good that their phallus substitute wallet bought them some form of manhood screwing one place that isn't completely screwed.
I chose to live on this island from South Florida to get away from their philosphy. I live in a neigborhood of people, children, dogs, chickens etc...
trying to give and receive respect from the people who lived before I even knew this place existed. Somehow wealth should be how much good you can do with the fruit of your labor; not how much you can possess or seeing how many people you can get to kiss your ***

They've moved a lot of the machines away and opened up the road but I haven't been UP the road. I don't hear any building. They did get the bejeezus fined out of them for violations. Right now our big current fight (two biggies going on actually but the big one is the Dubon/Terruno project out toward Seabourne - but taking over the whole mountain...

Um, let me copy something here. Michael...take it out if you'd like but let me know if you do so I can redirect to my blog please! This is about the meeting on the 10th. The meeting referred to happened a couple of days ago where the project owners met with locals to tell them how wonderful this project will be. Of course, the residents do NOT see it that way and were quite vocal in expressing themselves.

I would request...if you have been to Culebra as a tourist and got that fall in love with the place as it is and the idea of this sort of project horrifies you, would you mind writing an email stating that (be as eloquent as you like)? You can send them to me and I'll print them out and take them to the meeting.

Again, Michael, I know I'm going off the rail a bit here, and no harm if you say no go...just let me know. Thanks!

Read the following carefully...then think about the water side road OVER THE WHOLE MOUNTAIN. If you don't know where Electric beach is, think in the Punta Soldada area but closer to the ferry by a quarter or so. These people have already, without permits, put in roads and even have landscapers at work... yes...that arrogant, that sure that even violating many laws, it's signed sealed and delivered...and by whom?????????? Please Attend.......
the "Mi Terruno" public planning board meeting, also known as the Dubon project.
This week, quite few people went to the frightening preliminary meetings.
The project spans 102 acres from Fulladoza Rd. across the hills to the "Electric Beach "area
( it goes from sea to shining sea)
69 buildings are planned- with many of them being multi-family structures.
A moderate estimation is that more than 200 units will be erected in these 69 buildings.
(does it sound like Costa Bonita?)
The public hearing is an important place for us to be. It has been said that ACDEC
(the local board, led by the mayor,) is waiting to see the public's reaction before it gives its final approval.
(imagine! it may give its approval)
The Multi Purpose Room is where we need to be @ 10:00 on Tuesday - or earlier- if you want to participate in the local activities planned outside the meeting. Bring your posters & signs.
( I know it may be hard to participate due to the language barrier that many of us have, but bring a book, write a letter, but try to be there in body.)
This project is a big deal, and there are many waiting in the wings to follow.

We seemed to take a short cut over this project as we flew out yesterday. There is no equipment sitting around, but there are scraped off roads snaking all the way up the hill and over with erosion control fences. It makes me want to cry.

Happy Diving!
