Mailing Fuel to Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico
Author: Jon Bonanno (---.ny5030.east.verizon.net)

Is there any mail that arrives by boat? I am hoping to have some camping stove fuel canisters sent from San Juan to Culebra. We are flying to Culebra so we can not bring them with us. If there is ground shipping to Culebra, I should be able to have some sent from a camping supply store in San Juan.

Thanks!

Jon

Good afternoon,
If you don't send things "priority" they likely take the slower (boat) route.

I'm not 100% sure, but I've read posts that indicated that the propane canisters (like Coleman) are sold on the island.

I hope so, because we were told we could buy it there. Last time we had brought it in our gear on the ferry.

Hola! I would check with USPS about mailing those propane canisters. They are considered hazardous materials and I think sending them via mail by you is prohibited. However, you could order them directly from a camping store and give the Culebra Post Office address as the receiving address and get them that way. Maybe you could call the grocery stores on Culebra and make sure if they have a good quantity of them or maybe prepay for the ones you need and that way you'd be assured you'd have them. Happy travels! J

Yikes on that you brought fuel in your luggage on the ferry! A major no no, for your own sake and the safety of the other passengers and crew. Because there is an issue with fuel on the ferry (or plane) Culebra usually has a decent variety of fuel types. Unless you have some esoteric stove, we should have what you need. Stay safe, buy it here.

I know.... we had a half empty canister in our bag. We only realized we had once we got there. This time we will be fuel less as we aren't coming from camping off the main Island but directly from the airport. I have no problem supporting the Culebran economy we plan on purchasing everything there.

Thanks for getting back to me, everyone. Sounds like my worries are not justified, and I'll be able to find fuel on the island. Yay!

It's hard to believe we'll ever be in Culebra considering it's now 37 degrees and pouring rain in NYC. :(

See you soon.
